HI,
I've just updated an iPad to 9.2.1 - after the update I get the white 'Hello' screen with swipe to continue, after this screen it's not asking for a passcode.
No pascode has been set up on the iPad so I'm not sure why it's now asking for this. I've check online and the Activation status from another devise and its set to is ON.
Any ideas? I've worked and set up a number of iPads but have never seen this screen before.

Do you have a jailbroken ipad?
Your screen looks totally different from mine, I just powered off my ipad and powered it back on and the enter the password should be 4 to 6 circles and not one big square.
If I recall correctly, iOS 8 did the same thing. I went from iOS 7 to 8 and right after rebooting, it asks me to CREATE a passcode.
There is a Cancel button on your snapshot. I would tap that Cancel button if I were you.
If the phone had an alphanumeric passcode that is the screen you would see. An update does not erase an existing passcode, so the passcode that was used to set up the phone originally is required here.

Not jailbroken as far as I know this was purchased as a new item from Amazon. I'll trace back to the purchase and do some investigating.

Thanks for your reply, pre-update there was no passcode. So at a loss really about what has happened here. This was the screen I was faced with immediately after the update had finished. So a little confused.

If you're forced to create a passcode, enter an easy to remember passcode to continue. You can disable it later.
I never had a passcode but was asked to create one when I upgraded to iOS 8. So I guess Apple starts enforcing the use of passcodes now.
