I am having trouble getting the Server to recognize the available Apple TV setups in our office for incorporation into the profile I am creating. I have created a profile in Configurator that seems to get the settings through Bonjour, but when I add it to my test machine, it still requires the password to be entered (which is the issues I am trying to mitigate). Anyone have any experience with this type of problem?

With ATV and Profile Manager, this is how I get them on our MDM :
- Use Apple Configurator on a computer and save a copy of the MDM enrolment profile to it
- Create a "Wifi" profile in Apple Configurator to be installed on the ATV. This just contains the Wifi info so the ATV connects to the Wifi automatically.
- Zap the ATV with apple config and then add the correct profiles
- ATV should then check in with your Profile Manager and be on the devices list
- Create a group for the Apple TV's for easy management
Ah, actually what I mean is that I want to make it so all the machines I admin with the MDM can automatically connect to the Apple TVs for AirPlay. I can't get them to come up when I click the plus sign under the AirPlay configuration pane in Profile Manager.
AH ok! Is the ATV enrolled to your MDM? Not just a place holder?
Oh, no, not yet--are you saying that if they're enrolled, they should also become available as destinations when I am setting up the profile?
Correct. Once enrolled only then will profile manager be able to identify each one. They will then appear in the list on profile manager. Your apple TVs and iPads. / macs will need to be on the same VLAN unless your running over Bluetooth Also.
God, that was so helpful! Thank you. Any idea why none of the available OS updates show up in the MDM? I have Apple TVs running 7.1.2 and I don't have an option to push the updates out to them.
I dont belive you can update ATV's over the air, just like you cant update the OS of an iPad. ATV MDM stuff is pretty basic at the moment unfortunately 😟
That's okay, but I have the same problem with MBPs and iPhones that I have enrolled in the MDM. I know there are OS updates, but none show up as options to send to the devices in question.
OS updates aren't done via profile manager. Set up the updates service on the server then update clients via Apple Remote Desktop with a terminal command.
