This is physically impossible. He has touch ID that works, which wouldn't be the case with a 5C board. And there would be a mismatch of all the peripheral parts which connect to the motherboard.

It's more likely, as KiltedTim said, an error in the data base.

Thanks; I was going to seek you out to ask your opinion on that. Good to know, but in 9 years I've never seen a post that indicated a problem in the database. So I'm still suspicious of some sort of hanky-panky.

It does seem a little strange.

Not really. As you've been told, if you physically opened it, it's unsupportable. Even if you didn't, there is nothing anyone here can do about it. If you didn't physically open it, then call AppleCare or take it to the genius bar and see what they can tell you.
