An unexpected error occurred while signing in

I am currently unable to sign into the App Store. Each time I try, the following is displayed:-

An unexpected error occurred while signing in. Your device or computer could not be verified. Contact support for assistance.

This of course prevents the use of some purchased Apps. The problem started at about 08:00 GMT.

Is anyone aware of a fix for this problem thus preventing the 48 hour wait while Apple Support gets back to me. Thanks.

Same issue here. Changing AppleID password had no effect. iCloud and iTunes still working. Mid 2011 20.5 inch iMac, OS 10.11.3.
