Microsoft updates won't install on my mac

I have updates available for Microsoft Office, Excel and Word on my Macbook Air

Currently using OS X El Capitan - Version 10.11.3 (15D21)

I've tried installing one at a time but every time this window pops up...User uploaded file

I've tried quitting everything and restarting my mac but that hasn't seemed to work either....

Typically I’ve seen this on three specific occasions:

  1. When a program is moved from its expected location. Microsoft dumps all the Office programs into the Applications folder. If you move them somewhere else the updater can’t find it. Move the programs back into the Applications folder if this is the case.
  2. The user has in some way modified the application’s package or the application is damaged. Some people try to save hard drive space by removing things from programs either manually or using ‘cleaning’ programs. The updater sometimes expects to find certain files and quits if they aren’t found. Reinstall the programs to fix this.
  3. The user’s hard drive directory is damaged. Boot into the recovery partition, run Disk Utility and try to repair the hard drive. If this doesn’t work….probably reinstalling the programs will fix it.
