Virgin Superhub Mac Problems

Hi, I've been having a lot of problems with slow internet on my macbook pro which is the most current macbook pro 13 inch retina that i bought in December. I thought I had solved the problem of slow internet but it has come back with a vengeance and is now constantly so slow that I cannot even stream video and browsers take up to 15 seconds to load. However, my internet speeds on my laptop are excellent at my girl friend's house on her wifi and also on the cloud wifi when I go to the gym. Therefore, I believe the problem must be my MacBooks connection to my Virgin Superhub which I have read MacBooks tend to have problems with. It is very annoying as all the iPhones and iPads in my house work perfectly it's just my brand new macbook having problems. Does anyone know a fix to this problem with Virgin Superhubs and macbook pros? Thanks for any help.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.2)

Everything looks great except for one thing. Your signal level is too low. WAY too low. You are looking for a 20-point spread between signal and nose for acceptable performance.

This is usually caused by too much distance between your Mac and your Router, but solidly-built construction can also drop signal levels more sharply than modern "standard" construction.

Often the Router could be moved to a different place simply by extending its cable (cable-TV or telephone cable) and finding a place to plug it in.

The problem is exactly the same whether i'm sat directly next to the router or at the opposite end of the house. I also have an Xbox One in my bedroom that plays on line perfectly without a single problem yet my macbook can barely deal with simply opening a web page in the same room. I simply just don't understand. The only other explanation I can think of is that my macbook is somehow faulty.

I have exactly the same problem in my house,

We are running i phones, I pads and Windows PC's without any issues.

However, Both mine and my daughters Macbook Pros both operate as if we are on dial up and can take up to 2 minutes to load a page on Safari (Or chrome) then the connection gets dropped.

My daughters pro is brand new and mine only 6 Months old.

Very annoying!

thanks for sharing that. But unless you can post the answers to the questions above, no one has a clue about what you could do to improve your situation. Can you start a new thread and answer these questions from the data on the Option-WiFi information:

What are you showing for Phy mode and Channel?

What is RSSI or Signal Strength?

What is Transmit Rate?

And very important, how many other networks do you see?

Hi all,

I believe I found the solution to this,

What you have to do is connect to your Router (most likely using IP Address) and change settings onto the 5ghz frequency to one that will match your macbook pro, as of now I assume your macbook is connected to the 2.4 ghz and is not picking up the faster connection at all,

you can check your macbook's wifi hardware using system profiler in utilities and from there you can see the list of frequencies and channels that will allow your macbook to pick up the signal.

Took a while to find this answer but we've got there.
