Hello,
I went to start up my 2010 MBP with 4gb of ram and a 240 gb SSD (installed in January) and i get a symbol like a "do not enter" symbol. i can not get around this. i tried a PRAM reset. i cant imagine it being the SSD as it is basically brand new and hardly any use. do i need to a reinstall of my OSX? i have it on a 8GB usb key.
any help would be great

You said the the recovery system wants to install Mt. Lion. In order to install an older system than the one already on a MBP, you must ERASE the HDD (Disk Utility>Erase) and then you can install the older OSX. Erasing the HDD will delete ALL data off of the HDD, hence my query regarding your data and if it is backed up.

the icons you are seeing seem to indicate that it can not detect your hard drive. unscrew the back and see if you have a hard drive in it. if not, get one lol. if it has a hard drive, it may be your SATA cable. as it is in my case.
OK FOLKS. so it seems that my SATA cable has failed. the SDD is perfectly fine. I installed the SDD into my wifes Macbook Pro and everything works perfectly fine. so i am going to purchase a new SATA cable and hopefully this solves my issue. thanks to everyone that replied!
