adding dashes to phone number

a client of mine was trying to access her Time Warner account though their web portal.

when she gets to the text field that asks for her phone number it want you to add dashes (e.g. ###-###-####)

using the phone pad that IOS throws up there are none, and clicking the back (<) symbol takes the user to the keyboard but removes her from the phone field and takes her back to a text filed. Attempting to go back into the phone field changes the keyboard back to the keypad.

Is there a way around this or is this the inherent behavior IOS?

iPhone 6

IOS 9.2.1

Mac Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.2), Dual Xeon 2.4, 64 GB RAM

Safari is the client, they have not tried another.

you put in the area code ### and you can't go any further.

That sounds like a programming issue on the part of Time Warner's web portal that is causing it to change to the phone keypad rather than the keyboard. Is the client using Safari, or another web browser? Have they tried another web browser?

I wonder if it has something to do with the Time Warner site recognizing the browser as being mobile and it is setting how to enter the number? I wonder if there is a link/button whatever to make it go to the full site instead of a mobile version, again, if that is the case.

I Had this problem with time warner as well. I finally typed the phone number in the zip code space, copied and pasted into the phone number space and was successful

So what happens when the entire phone number is entered without dashes ? It should work.

it does not "autofill" the dashes, and fails.
