Cannot add network printer

I'm having printer trouble! I have a network printer connected to my router via ethernet. I use the printer via wifi from two macbooks.

I got a "printer not connected" error and have already tried the following several times:

  • reset the router
  • restarted the printer
  • reset my printing system
  • renamed the library/printers folder
  • reinstalled my Canon driver software
  • done a safe start of my macbook and then a normal start

When I try to add the printer again (obviously it was removed by the reset) I cannot see anything via Bonjour (in the Default tab). The printer has a valid address (via DHCP) and I can ping it from my macbook. I've also tried adding the printer via IP address (IPP)—it simply won't print.

I've search all the printing posts I can find with no joy...help, please!

This morning I tried to add a printer and—like magic—my printer appeared in the default window. I quickly added it, printed a test page and then another PDF via Preview. Awesome! Then I tried to print a poster via Acrobat Reader, and I'm back to the "printer not connected" message that was the start of my problems a week ago. Again I have reset the printing system, even reinstalled two versions (latest and previous) of the drivers. I can ping the printer, but cannot add via IP either.

I've searched more printing problems and solutions, but to no avail.

Help, please!

I have the same problem so I took off the printer Epson Stylus Photo PX730 WD hoping to put it back on, no such luck. Now the printer space is blank and cannot be found. On the Printer Printout it states that the Printer is connected to Wireless Network (SSID). I was printing with no problems till I updated to El Capitan. No idea what to do next, any suggestions will be gratefully received. I try hard but do not always understand the technical aspects. Alice

My issue is resolved, more or less.

I went back to basics and saw I could not ping the printer. I discovered either the Ethernet cable or plug at printer end is faulty. A new cable carefully jiggled gets a connection. Now I can add a printer via LPD. It sees the Canon drivers so all is well. Thanks PAHU!

Still curious though why I (still) cannot see this printer in the default window...it used to appear there. Any, it ain't broke no more, so I will leave it be.
