Equation fonts messed up after Mathtype installation

I just got a new iMac and likes the 4K screen a lot. I work with a few people on a paper that has lots of equations by using Microsoft word. I am using Microsoft Office 365 2016 version. At the beginning I can see equations well (some fonts mess-up, not horrible, as my old iMac). Then I found that there is no equation editor installed with Word. I then download a 30-day trial version Mathtype. After installation, all the equation are messed up so much that I barely see anything. I uninstalled Mathtype but cannot fix the problem. I sent a request to Mathtype a few days ago but they didn't reply me. Does anyone have the same experience? Can anyone provide an advice? My iOS is El Capitan 10.11.3. Many thanks!

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

Mathtype probably installed conflicting fonts that are still on the system. Open Font Book. From the menu, run the command Restore Standard Fonts. All installed third party fonts will be moved out of the /System/Library/Fonts/ folder, and the root /Library/Fonts/ folder. A new folder named Fonts (Removed) will be created next to each of the Fonts folders noted. All third party fonts that may have been in the two Fonts folders will be there.

Since this command does not affect the Fonts folder in your user account, the problem will still exist if that's where the fonts installed by Mathtype are. Click anywhere on the desktop so Finder is the name of the foreground app next to the Apple logo at the upper left. Press Command+Shift+H to open your user account folder. If you don't see the Library folder in your account, press Command+J. Turn on the check box to show the Library folder. Close that box. Now in your user account, go to /Library/Fonts/. Create a new folder on your desktop and move any fonts in that Fonts folder to the new empty folder.

After doing these steps, the only active fonts on the system will be those installed by OS X. Restart the Mac in Safe Mode be restarting and holding down the Shift key. When it gets to the desktop (it will ask you to login), restart again normally. Test.
