how to upload .aae files back to iphone?

1, I downloaded the .jpgs together with .aae files in order to create a backup and free the space for another pics round.

2, I find out there is app that would deal with .aae files and aply them to the images, on my Mac. Not even Photos does.

3, The only way to have .aae files applied to corresponding pictures seems to be putting all of them bac to the iphone then export them via dropbox or similar.

4, now there's a problem:

- itunes sync only jpg files, ignore the .aae files

- image capture app (which I used to download the whole content from my iphone) works one way only

- no other app knows how to put pics with its .aae files back to the iphone

5, does it mean that once downloaded and deleted the .aae files from the device makes them useless and the user is screwed?

When you import your photos together with the .AAE files to Photos for Mac, you will see in Photos, that the edits will be applied to your photos.

For example, I imported this folder:

User uploaded file

The imported photos are showing the "edit" badge overlay on the thumbnails, and when I open the Edit panel, I am seeing the "Chrome" effect applied, that can be toggled on and off.

User uploaded file

So, if you want to get the photos back to the iPhone with the effects applied, import them to a Photos for Mac Library, then enable iCloud Photo Library for Photos on both the iPhone and the Mac, then sync the library to your iPhone. Enable "Download originals" on the iPhone. Once all photos have been downloaded to the iPhone and the photos are back, you can disable iCloud Photo Library again.

Thank you!!!

Finally something 🙂

Although it worked for my needs, I feel important to point out that:

  1. there is no edit badge icon showing for me
  2. i had to go one by one snap to edit mode and wait till the effect applies (3500 photos :-D)
  3. i tried this before. I didn't succeed because of when importing the entire folder with .jpg and .aae together, the .aae files were dimmed, which stands for "this app does not deal with this filetype" - therefore i did not even try. I could not select them.

Now its fine, thank you very much, you've saved what is left from the weekend!
