Found Solution to using Mouse with IPad (no Jailbreak)

I've searched high and low for the answer to this question (which seems to be a common problem) for people who wish to use their iPad in place of their laptop.

We already get to use our Bluetooth keyboards, but what about a mouse?

I've seen many videos of people using a mouse on their iPads, but ALL of them required a jailbreak. (I personally don't wanna ruin my warranty so I stay far away from that method.)

Last week I saw a video of a man using a USB to lighting adapter with an ordinary wireless mouse.

So I decided to check it out for myself.

I went on Amazon and found a simple Amazon Basics USB to lighting adapter. ($8)

I plugged the lightning port into my power slot on the bottom off my ipad and plugged the USB chip from my Logitech Wireless mouse in the other end of the adapter.

My iPad discovered the mouse right away and to my surprise, a cursor appeared on the screen!

I've been successfully using my Apple BT keyboard and Logitech mouse with my IPad 4 and I am very satisfied with the new-found abilities.

It allows me to type notes in class without having to use the touch screen at all!

I am not sure why either, but this just happened to one of my postings, too!

If there is something about your postings that do not conform to the TOU you agree to, the moderators of these forums have the option to edit or delete your post, either on their own or from a warning notice from an upper level community support member.

Anyways, I understand what you want to do, but the issue is that iOS devices have to have an overall navigation cursor, other than the text insertion I-Beam cursor.

Without a standard cursor that works throughout iOS, there is nothing a mouse or trackpad can control!

Like I stated earlier, I don't see Apple adding any type of OS onscreen cursor control anytime soon.

Until this happens, Apple won't be implementing ANY type of mouse or trackpad control to iOS.

The only thing you can do it send feedback and keep, occassionally, sending feedback to Apple on this issue.

You don't get the best of both worlds.

We are not working in JUST a Windows environment and are only chained to it for certain applications.

Surface Pro tablets do not have everything we need and are clumsy compared to an iPad Pro. Additionally, the Surface Pro:

  • doesn't have LTE networking
  • cost TWICE as much as an iPad depending on the model
  • battery life is terrible

Microsoft still has a way to go to make the Surface desirable for our firm. It's a nice start, but costs, lack of LTE, and overall clumsiness have deterred us from getting more than two for the office. The iPads are always chosen to take on site with an Apple Pencil.

The only thing we are missing is a mouse for what we would consider the perfect environment.

Apple is reading here. In fact, they deleted another post I had made relating to how our entire firm wishes we had mouse or track pad support.

They said my post wasn't "constructive" I find that really hard to believe since I detailed how we would use a mouse or trackpad with our Apple devices.

Aaron, we received your deleted posts before they were deleted.

You are aware that the Surface Pro tablets. most likely, have everything you department needs.

You are working in a Windows environment, anyways.

Why iPads and why didn't your department do the proper research on mobile tablet devices?

So why didn't your architectural department choose Microsoft Surface Pro tablets.

WIth the Microsoft Surface Pro lineup, you get the best of both worlds!

You get a full touch screen, stylus, mouse and, now, Microsoft Surface Dial support driven tablet with full Windows OS with the option of attaching a keyboard to use as a laptop when needed.

Plus, the Microsoft Surface Pro tablet line has a LOT MORE hardware customisation options and features than any Apple iPad.

Hi All,

If you are working remotely on your iPad or iPhone and are using Jump Desktop, Nulana Remotix, Splashtop Personal or Business or VMware Horizon, then you can use the Swiftpoint GT mouse. This is usually available at a very special price from the app providers (not VMware Horizon) in the settings tab inside the apps or contact Swiftpoint.com for a coupon code to get the special offer.

I hope this helps?

Here is my post to customer service about the issue.

Dear Sir/Madam

I have an ipad mini with ios9.3.5. As I have searched so far, no all of the bluetooth Mouse products are compatable with ipad. Do you have any intentions to provide compatibility at least to your Apple bluetooth Mouse for ipad?

If you reply my queastion , I would be grateful to you.

Sincerely Yours

Bugra KURAN

Hi All,

I am not sure if I have commented on this before - there is now a Bluetooth mouse for the iPad but only for a few apps - Jump Desktop, VMware Horizon, Nulana Remotix, and Splashtop Personal and Business iOS apps. If you want one then please contact me and I will let you know where to get them from. It is called the Swiftpoint GT and is available online and through specific retailers. I hope this helps and if you have some apps you would like the mouse to work with please let me know and I will see if we can make that happen.

Cheers, Sam

I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link.

Sadly the mouse does not work. 😟

Is anyone surprised it doesn't? In the entire history of iOS, the operating system has not offered mouse support, and is quite likely to never do so. Other than a few, very specific exceptions (e.g. an expensive and specific hardware mouse, with a specific app, to solely drive a mouse cursor on a Windows Remote Desktop connection) there is no mouse support for iOS itself, nor for any app running on an iOS device.

Is your post reply directed at me or someone else?

Have you read any of this post?

I'm simply replying to other users here who keep insisting on trying mice with their iPads and failing miserably.

Where did you get anything from my posts that I own a lot of mice?

I actually DO own quite few mice, but that's not the issue here.

No where in my posts here was that ever mentioned.

So, I don't really understand your reply to me.

Jul 22, 2017 10:12 AM in response to MichelPM

It was this comment here from an earlier post.

"I have the latest iPad Pro and no BT mouse I own will work with ANY iDevice on any newer or current iOS version".

It was "No BT mouse I own" plus the likelihood you have Apple mice too, suggested to me you had multiple mice .. and therefore a nest.

But never mind, I've learnt that humour doesn't always amuse in the forums.

Well,

Then just use the quotes function to reference my post replies.

I don't remember what my replies are in a post after a certain amount of time.

Humor is not lost on me, but comments I post in the past might be.

No problem.

Like i stated, was simply confused.

Yes, I own a pretty good stock pile of Bluetooth and other older wireless mice.

I am actually using a track pad with my Mac now due to space constraints with my current Mac setup.

So, added another input device to my pile.
