I delete the email account *********.com and when I try and add it back in I get the message "This account already exists". See screen shot.
I did reboot after the deletion.

Duane, I have read some of your post and replies, they are great. I wanted to ask you a question, and this is the only way I could figure on how to get a hold of you. So here is my question:
I am using Hazel on my Mac, and I have certain daily emails, that have a PDF attachment. I wish to have them automatically saved to a specific folder outside of Mail, or like to my desktop. The idea is then that Hazel can monitor that file and process it. Is there a script or other method that would permit me to move those specific attachments?
I am a newbie on Apple Scripts, if that is what it takes.. Can you help me? Or point me in the right direction?

You may have to remove the configured SMTP server by going into Mail and selecting "Edit SMTP server list".

Thank you for the reply. I had followed the instructions in both of your links to delete the email account originally. After opening Mail I do not see the email account when I click <Mail - Preferences - Accounts> or <Mail - Accounts>. But I get the error message when I try and add the email account back in.

By any chance did you have this email account synced with your ICloud account? https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7260368?start=0&tstart You may need to go to the utilities folder, Keychain and delete the mail account from keychain that you are trying to re-add.
No it is not synched to iCloud. The iCloud email address is different than the one I am trying to add.
You could go to your home folder .Library ,mail- and see if that account is still showing. Be aware that if it is still there and you delete it. Any email that is there is gone and the only way to retrieve it is thru your online mail server. There is also in home,library preferences com.apple.mail.plist which if deleted will recreate itself the next time the mail app is opened.
I understand that the account that you are trying to add is not listed. Instead click on another account to access and edit the SMTP server list.

I am running El Capitan and still have hidden folders, so I can not see the Library folder. I found the following command on the web to show all hidden folders, do you know if this is a valid command.
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE;killall Finder
It is easier than that.
Does this account have the same id as your apple account? In the app store,Itunes and community forum. While I know that you say this account was not synced with ICloud. Most of what shows online for this problem,has that as the villain. Have you, just for the heck of it tried logging out of ICloud and then reentering the mail account.

I checked .Library ,mail - using your suggestion to see Library (thank you). It is not there. I also checked the AMTP list via another account and it is not there.
