Opening .eml files

I am new to Apple, I just got a MacBook Air.

I need to access work emails save in an Outlook online system, the emails appear as .msg files, these will open using Winmail.dat file viewer but the attachments within the emails are .eml files, I cannot open these. Winmail.dat file viewer says I need to upgrade to Winmail.dat premium to open attachments, I tried this (cost £8) but it doesn't open this type of.eml file.

I sound like I know what I am talking about but I don't, could someone help an ignorant Apple user please.

simply put, I want to open .eml attachments to .msg files

Thanks

Colin

It seems totally illogical for someone to have mixed together both .msg and .eml files.

As you state .msg is the mail format used by Outlook, .eml is a different email format used by a variety of other email programs including Apple Mail on a Mac. What you are going to need to do is first open the .msg file using a tool, and then save the attachments as .eml files. Then you can open the save copy of the .eml files using Apple Mail.

Note: Apple Mail needs to have been configured with an email account but it could then be 'turned off'.

For what its worth I use this tool to open .msg files on a Mac. http://www.45rpmsoftware.com/mailraider.php
