Events and Albums in Photos

I recently upgraded from Mavericks to El Capitan and therefore iPhoto has been migrated to Photos. Is there any reason why I should make new Albums for new pictures added since migration or can I add new Events and save them as iPhoto Events?

Photos does not support Events as they existed in iPhoto. Moments are the new Events automatically-generated replacement. To manually control what is contained, you have to create Albums.

The problem is that the migration to Photos lost all the titles to each photo which is a total pain. Yes, I have checked Titles on the Photos menu but still no titles! I've found them under info but, in order to put the photos / pictures in title order, the titles have to show. There is a an Apple Script method, kindly supplied by Old Toad, of batch adding the titles using the info information but I'm not confident enough to do this

The Photos program may be neat but it doesn't do what I want it to do!

Try out the scripts on a test photo or an album of test photos. You do have a backup strategy in place, right? Then if you do mess up the library you can always restore the latest backup and continue.

I know the frustrations about the titles. Once you get a handle on scripting, the frustrations go away.

The script that Leone provided, that mass updates the titles, works very nicely. I took this script and added a section that automatically creates "day" albums to mimic the old "events", and then creates "Month" and "Year" folders to mimic what I did in Aperture. And I am not altering anything with the normal Photo container that is organized by Years/Collections/Moments. I use this script to process all photos after importing.

The apple automator is extremely powerful, and it lets you do whatever you want. Once you get comfortable with scripts it opens up a whole new world, where you are in control - and you are not dependent upon the vanilla software. Leone provides directions on making the script a service that can be called from the Photos pull down menu.
