Try the following:

  1. Open Control Panel > Device Manager
  2. Plug in your device
  3. Locate Universal Serial Bus Controllers > Apple Mobile Device USB Driver.
It is also possible the device may show under Imaging Devices, Portable Devices or Other Devices or as an MTB USB Device.
  4. Right-click and select Update Driver Software...
  5. Click Browse my computer for driver software
  6. Browse to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers or
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
  7. Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
  8. Click Apple Mobile Device USB Driver
  9. Click Next, then Close and exit Device Manager

Or try If iTunes doesn't recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod - Apple Support.

Failing that try a full tear down and rebuild of iTunes as set out in Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

I tried the steps listed to update the driver for my Ipad Mini 2 but they did not work since the driver was not in either of the locations listed.

I found another post with a similar problem which said to uninstall iTunes and reinstall

I uninstalled:

Itunes

Bonjour

Apple Application Support 32

Apple Application Support 64

Apple Mobil Device

and then downloaded and reinstalled the latest iTunes.

After this my PC recognized my IPAD min again

Just posting in case anyone else has the same issue

iTunes would no longer recognize iPad 2 after upgrade to 12.3.3 (but still recognized iPhone 6). Tried turingtest2's remedy, but Apple Mobile Device USB Driver wasn't present in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers (only the MTP USB Device driver and upgrading that didn't resolve the issue). texaspete01's suggestion to uninstall the listed components and reinstall iTunes 12.3.3. did the trick. Thanks for your post!
