Touch ID Not Working after iOS 9.3 Update

My TouchID is not working, post the iOS 9.3 update yesterday. Doesn't work to unlock the phone, nor apps that use it. I disabled/enabled it. Re-setup my fingerprints, and no luck. Rebooting phone doesn't help either.

Did not backup phone prior to update. And have not tried doing a backup and restoring yet. Was hoping for a quicker/better solution (and also wanted to report this issue).

Any ideas?

I had this same problem, but was able to resolve it. Go to settings/touch id & passcode. I deleted all of my existing touch id's and then added a new touch id. Then I went to outlook when it asked me to authenticate i clicked on cancel and the HOME button with my thumb (the same finger I used to setup the touch id). This part is not intuative, because outlook has a finger print displaying and you think you are supposed to touch the screen or something. It was a simple as touching the round Home button at the bottom of my iphone. I think we are all just over thinking it. That got me in and then I went to the outlook settings (inside the app at the bottom right of screen) and turned of the require touched id. Hope this helps!

I have the same issue with two iPhones 6, it begun with iOS 9.3 / iOS 10.x. The Touch ID is failing and so the button is only working. I didnt exchange the button, so its the original one in both devices. I dont know what Apple changed, but the killed my Touch IDs in both devices. This really *****. I tried everything from Reset, Hard Reset, DFU recovery, downgrade to iOS 9.3.5 (as older versions of iOS are not signed anymore by Apple). New installation of iOS 10 etc. I even checked the cables and connection of the button to the mainboard. Nothing of all these actions didnt help. Apple what is going on with the good and quality work of the years before? Now the software and hardware seems to me less buggy and not as stable as in the past…

Hello friends

I already told you that i had the same problem with touch id in the last 6 months.

20 days ago, i have been experiencing a very hot iPad.... but when i say hot i mean discomfortable for holding ipad in hands

Also, the battery started to fall very quickly . In about 2h hours it was completely gone.

I upgraded to IOS 10... the problem persists

Yesterday when i pick it up the iPad, it was dead. JUST DEAD!!

I've tried everything possible to restart it.

Just got back from apple store and they made some tests....

Well..... it looks like the main board is dead, and the touch id and the battery were symptoms of the near death board.

My iPad had 15 months of use... NEVER has hit the ground, never got any moisture. Never traveled with it.

I only used it to my daily reading.

hope this never occur to you

cheers

Backup and restoring won't do it. I have tried everything posted and still receiving Failed. Unable to complete ID setup. Please go back and try again. Ten days ago I connected my Iphone with the computer of a Principal Advisor MAc + ios at Apple (I reserve his name) we worked different things for near an hour without a solution. All the related data was collected in a file and sent to Apple's engineering dept. This guy told me he would be contacting me with the result of the data collected to fix the problem. I have written him 3 emails without a reply. Seems that Apple knows what the problem is but the cost to fix the issue may be too much. I think that replacing the touch id will not help because it comes matched with the main board of the phone as per a phone technician. I wonder when will they come with a fix. Most probably I'll go back to android.

hello guys

I hope this is going to help a lot of you using iPhone 5s 6 6s as well.

Its been almost 3 months now that I was struggling to find a solution. The error was this:

"unable to activate touch id " or else frozen add finger print option also cannot activate touch id on this iphone.

I lived with this enough in fact a few hours ago I thought of quitting talking about this issue that this 5s of mine is never going to allow me to enroll any finger print ever again. Besides my iphone 6 i loved iphone 5s too. after struggling for so long I believe and trust me this is actually going to solve the issue for many of us.

I always wondered why does this button works but the sensor doesn't besides the fact that both falls into the same connecting port covered with a bracket hence after so many hardware trials tests you wont even believe that button which I pressed ,rubbed ,threw on floor enormous times started working again I actually mean to say that its not a hardware fault as these buttons comes with a packing way form not allowing any hardware malfunction its just a software glitch that too with icloud because our security is apple's priority. Every few minutes your iphone sends diagnostic reports to apple sever and icloud as well and guess what here comes the issue as it gets freezed up because of some security break it can be either several tries over the button or a removal of home button cable while doing a battery replacement or any hardware repair. The cpu and the harware thinks it as a breach of security or whatsoever and get updated with app-store icloud even with your apple id and somehow gets stuck on passing notification and messages that could not activate touch id. my contacts and images are all on icloud hence i never removed i cloud from my iphone even after a fresh update or installing the IOS on iphone and selecting to not restore from icloud it still asks for i cloud unlock to settle down find my iphone and hence gets synced by icloud some how but not today as daringly i deleted my icloud account from my iphone and followed a few steps and you wont even believe after so many months the button is alive again with almost 3 fingers added and works like charm now. here's what you must do to solve this issue.

1. Log out from your icloud account and switch off the icloud account in mail too.

2. Delete all the already added finger prints not in case if the add fingerprint option is frozen.

3. Go to mail and switch off contacts ,reminders as well as other options for all mail accounts.

4. Now just simply check whether the iPhone shows your info in contacts or not and are there any contacts in the contacts list ,if there's not then you are good to go.

5. Just switch of your phone and plug it in to charge and let it show up the apple logo.

6. After you reach home screen passing the code screen just go to settings and check your add finger option it would be active and alive in blue color.

this happened with me so i thought i must share it with you guys because now I know it was actually not a faulty hardware but a icloud glitch.

best of luck.

I have tried what you suggested buddy, sign out from icloud, all related to icloud, remove fingerprints, switch off iphone and then plug charger cable until iPhone back switch on and try to add a new fingerprint, but still failed. this occurs after replacing my iphone touch screen, and I use the services of a third party. if that is not a hardware problem, what should I do again? Please help me. I've chat with the head advisor apple 2 days ago, he has helped to diagnose my iphone, all in fine condition, but for the Touch ID in a failed condition, and it is advisable to do a replacement spare part. 😟

Hi there,

Thanks for the tips and help!

I would love to try out your proposed solution to resolve my Touch ID issue. However, there's a big problem - I can't seem to sign in to my iCloud account at all on my iPhone 6S even though the username and password are correct as I can sign in to other Apple devices and on PC. In fact, my iPad shows that I'm still signed in to iCloud on my iPhone but this just isn't the case as I have lost all access to and data of mailboxes, contacts, notes, calendar events and Apple Pay (basically everything related to Touch ID or iCloud).

Battery life of this phone is greatly affected and after charging to a full 100%, it only lasts 30 minutes maximum. Apps keep crashing too. Diagnostics test shows that the battery is fine though and the only issue is with the Touch ID. This phone is only slightly more than a year old.

I'm contemplating to replace the LCD which will cost $220, as quoted by the authorized Apple Support and repair store to fix the Touch ID issue. However, if this doesn't resolve the fundamental issue of the phone, I might have to spend $550 to replace the entire phone.

Any advice or help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks a bunch!!
