Touch ID Not Working after iOS 9.3 Update

My TouchID is not working, post the iOS 9.3 update yesterday. Doesn't work to unlock the phone, nor apps that use it. I disabled/enabled it. Re-setup my fingerprints, and no luck. Rebooting phone doesn't help either.

Did not backup phone prior to update. And have not tried doing a backup and restoring yet. Was hoping for a quicker/better solution (and also wanted to report this issue).

Any ideas?

My Touch ID failed after the 9.3.1 update. I could not turn it on and the slider to Add a Fingerprint was grayed out. I have not had my button repaired and I used the TouchID to turn on the phone to do the update originally. I noticed that the update had a rough start after completion. My phone crashed a couple of times and then seemed to be working, but it was not a smooth restart. Then later I noticed my Touch ID did not work at all. I tried a number of things mentioned in this thread but they didn't work. I did a sync (but not backup) on my computer through iTunes since everything else seemed to be ok, then I did a Restore iPhone, which re-installed all the system and personal files. This fixed my problem and when my phone restarted it led me through the Touch ID setup process. All my previously stored fingerprints were gone but I was able to set them all up again. Good to go.

Hello,

I am having the same problem. I have no idea when it stopped working but it must be only last few days, no idea why, I am getting "unable to complete the touch iD setup, try again later" message, my home button was never repaired I always use apple services. I have iOS 9.3.1 since 2/4/ but I am pretty sure the touch iD was working for some time after the update.. someone help pls..

HI, same here. IPad Air 2.

I've installed 9.3.1, everything worked fine for a few days. All of a sudden yesterday afternoon Touch ID stopped working. It worked again for a few minutes yesterday evening, since then it doesn't work.

UPDATE: I restored the iPad as suggested by Apple Twitter Support. Now the iPad is as pristine as new but it still doesn't let me enroll any fingerprint. Really really disappointed!!

Hi, the same problem with Touch ID for me (iphone 5s).

Two days ago I noticed that phone can't be unlocked using Touch ID (it was no feedback holding thumb on home button). In several hours it worked, but then again doesn't work. It was like 1 working (unlocking) per 5 nonworking (or more) tries. Today I removed all stored Fingerprints and tried to add new one, but after clicking "Add a Fingerprint" I have no reaction by placing finger on the Home button. It seems that I lost Touch ID feature on my phone and it is very frustrating.

Updates to my previous post (Re: Touch ID Not Working after iOS 9.3 Update)

iOS 9.3.1

After several hours I was able to add few fingerprints and 'Touch ID' worked from time to time.

I noticed some dependency from applications running in the background 😕.. It was like when I close some applications (e.g "Health" by double-click on Home button and swipe app up) touch ID stops working. But it is only observations..

@Brian,

Thank you for reply, but it is not an option for me – I bought my phone in Ukraine (~6 months ago) and I had only 1 month warranty (instead of regular 12 months).

So I hope it is just software bug and it will be fixed in the next iOS update.

FIX FOUND!

Ok so stop waiting for the stupid update, I found out the fix. You want to RESET ALL SETTINGS. Apple advised that this is the fix.

Only reset settings, don't erase content, only the settings. iphone will restart and touch ID will work again, you'll just have to change some of your settings back, and your wallpaper will be default, but other than that everything else will stay the same and you wont lose anything else. CHEERS!
