iPad2 plus IOS 9.3 = brick

Like many others my trusty iPad2 is now a brick after updating to IOS 9.3. I tried all of the following:

1. Connecting to a different Wi-Fi network

2. Connecting through iTunes

3. Recovery mode through iTunes

4. Turn off / Turn back on

5. Force restart of iPad

Each time it fails to "activate". iTunes says it can't authenticate my iPad2.

So all that's left is restore through DFU mode. My latest back up is months ago. Here's my question: When going through the DFU procedure I get to the window that says essentially, "Are you sure you want to restore, this will erase all content". Does DFU mode ever give an option to back up before restoring?

I don't think DFU gives the opportunity to backup.

One last thing to try, go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into your iCloud account/apple ID. Remove the iPad from your list of devices then try to activate again.

Another thing to try is to simply do nothing. Word is that Apple is aware of the problem adn is working on a solution. Just no idea when it will come. Could be hours, days or longer.

I would think that removing my iPad2 from the iCloud account would erase any iCloud backups that may exist for that device. I may need those in the future, however this situation may play out. Am I right?

Once your iPad has entered DFU mode, consider all the data that was previously on it to be lost...unless you have or made a backup of it.

Consider DFU mode (whether the device has entered it on it's own due to an error or you have manually entered it) to be a "last resort". Everything is gone from the device.

If you remove it then yeah, I think it does wipe out the backups. But the thought is that you remove it, get your device activated and back and then put it back into iCloud so you can back up from this point forward.

Or you can always wait and see when Apple releases a fix or fixes things. Might be hours or days or longer....it fixes when it fixes.
