9.3 Your iPad could not be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable.

Downloaded New software 9.3 on IPhone no problem, for IPad 2 it says: Your IPad could not be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable.

Tells me to try connecting to ITunes to activate, when I do this, it says Apple does not recognize device. This has been going on for hours. Any clue whats going on?

This is more likely to happen when a major iOS update has been recently released because so many people are trying to activate at once, and sometimes Apple's servers get overloaded. Try again in a little while, and perhaps a force restart of your iPad would help.

To force restart:

Hold both the home and power buttons at the same time until the Apple boot logo appears.

I Have been trying all morning to do the same thing but each time I do a reset iTunes loses the connection to my iPad because I have to enter my passcode. So the only other option iTunes offers me is to redownload the update & install to iPad. 6 hour estimate then 2 hours into it all stops & I am no further along. I'm glad that others are having success but maybe those of us with passcodes can't progress because iTunes shuts down because it can't connect to the iPad because of pass code. Grrrr....

Good for those who have had the solution and it worked for them I followed instructions and updates did not work. After many frustrating hours I restored, losing all my apps and files in the process. What a disappointing reaction from Apple support. After chat and being promised email of my chat and solution when it was available I had no response. Thought Apple was better than that.

Thank you, Brenden. That appears to have solved the issue I was having as well.

Further...

I would like to point out that I had tried this about 10 times in the past 2 days (looking for the recovery screen) and could not get to it. The iPad would only restart. I find this very curious, mostly because iTunes did acknowledge my iPad, and my iPad settings were still being adhered to (i.e. it could read that it was my iPad (persistant machine name) but would not let me register). I'm wondering if there is something else going on behind the scenes.

Apologies. I'm not trying to be a consipiracy theorist (because that makes no sense). I do, however, find the timing curious.
