How do I add a cover page to a manuscript in pages and not have it included in the numbering

I am trying to add a cover page without a number to a lengthy manuscript that is numbers. How do I do that?

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)

What application are you using to write this manuscript? Word, Pages, etc.? In Word, you would double-click the footer and then go to the Header & Footers tab. Then, you'd click "Different First Page." This removes the page number from the bottom of the cover page. You'll want the next page in your manuscript to start with 1, so you'd go next to Page Number, still in the Header & Footers tab, and click "Format Page Numbers." In the dialog box that opens, at the bottom, set the numbers to start with zero. This way, your cover page will have no page number and the first page of your manuscript will start with 1 and progress forward.

Hi jmminniti,

Your question is in the Numbers for Mac forum, but perhaps you are asking about another app.

If that app is Pages version 5, then backEast's reply is correct.

If that app is Word, then pinkstones' answer is correct.

If I am wrong, is there another forum in Apple Support Communities to which this question should be moved? See here:

and please reply to this thread with questions.
