Encrypted USB not showing up

I encrypted my 16GB USB on my mac when I got my macbook in november 2015. The USB has worked fine, but this time - only the prompt asking for my password is showing up. When I type in my password, the prompt disappears and USB never shows up.

- Tried to reset.

- Tried to log off and on.

- Tried different USB ports

None of the above works.

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)

If you have a time machine backup, you can go back to before the update. Here is something to try. Go to you home folder/library /preferences. Look for com.apple.desktop.plist and com.apple.finder.plist. Remove them and put them on the desktop. Restart and test. If it now works delete the plist from the desktop. If not you can put them back.

You had 90 days free phone tech support from apple, which may have run out. But you still have 1 year of warranty with apple care. You could make an appointment at the apple genius bar. Take along the flash drive and explain the problem. I would advise that you get an external drive to do time machine backups. The genius bar may need to erase and reinstall to fix your problem.
