iOS 9.3 - Safari/Mail freezes after clicking links on iPhone 6S

Hi,

Never had any problems with my iPhone 6S. Just upgraded to iOS 9.3 without any issues. After the upgrade, I can't click links when searching something on Google in Safari or clicking a link in the Mail, the apps just freeze.

I tried clearing Safari history data/cache, closing all apps and restarting the phone (both regular and holding both home/power key), disabling all sorts of settings form Safari settings, but no luck.. Anyone with an idea how to sort it out?

I have the same problem with mail, Safari, and messages. Links work with the gmail app. Links work in Chrome but only with a long click to get the option to open in a new tab. It appears this has happened before with 9.2.1 but I could not find an answer that fixed the problem. I do not think it started until 24 hours after the update. iPhone 6s+ 128gb 9.3.

IOS 9.3 on iPhone 6s 128 Gb.

The problem started Saturday...

I cannot open any links from e-mail, after that I could not click on any search results in Safari.

Downgraded to 9.2.1 + restore back-up, all OK, except the fact that I could not pair my Apple Watch (it requires 9.3).

Updated again to 9.3 and it worked fine until I've restored my Apple Watch! Now is worse!

This is a royal screw and my phone is pretty useless right now!

I Used the same workaround as John.Liu... Chrome, long press, new page. safari and chrome does not open amy links. on my iPhone6 it is not related to the 9.3 update. Its appaered before, and after I decided to go for the update, but the issue szayed the same. In my case switching off Jacascript did not help. Under chrome the only links that I foundto be working are the login link on the apple support site 🙂

Spoke with Apple Support from Australia a few hours ago - they advised the problem is server-related, not specific to the iOS 9.3 update, though it seems to be mostly affecting devices that have upgraded. They are working on a fix, but there is no specific timeframe 😟. They tried to walk me through all the various options people have been suggesting as temporary measures (disabling Javascript, turning off Safari options, hard resets etc etc), all to no avail. Like others, I am able to web browse with Mozilla Firefox by opening a new tab, but all Messenger, Mail etc hyperlinks are inoperable and will remain so until they get the Safari issue sorted.

It has NOTHING to do with iOS9.3! This problem existed on my iphone 6s 128gb first starting on Saturday 26th in the morning under 9.2.1. This is an Apple safari server problem and nothing to do with our iOS. Also happened briefly on my iPad Air with 9.2.1 and now i simply use Chrome and Gmail apps to replace Safari and Apple Mail. So far no problems with them. So there is some incompatibility between Safari and Apple Mail and the Apple Server. Shame they won't acknowledge it because today i have had enough and will be looking at alternatives to their products.

Same issue here with IPhone 6s + IOS 9.3

I'm not able to click any link in Safari after a search.

Mind that I have experience of this issue starting from today, when I upgraded my iphone to IOS 9.3 some days agoo everything worked fine that's very very weird.

I already tried to:

1) reset the safari settings (wiping the cache and cookies)

2) reset the iphone (pressing home button + power button)

Nothing of the previously attempts worked.

Same issue is visible also using another browser (I tried Firefox).

These workarounds WORKED for me:

1) Disabled javascript from safari settings

OR

2) Change the search engine to Bing (strange, if you use "Duck Duck Go" still doesn't work, didn't try "Yahoo").

Altough the problem is still visible if you go to "google.com" and you start a search there.

I spotted the question to the Apple Support Twitter channel, le't keep in touch.

IDK who you spoke with, BUT it is not a server related. DOT.

If they told you that is for 2 possible reasons:

1) they told you that just as saying, its a problem that must be fixed by us, not on your phone, so be patient.

2) they don't know yet whats the problem

Look at my previous post. The more I follow the situation online, the more I am sure about what I said.

Now I try to spoke with an apple guy, lets see what he's gonna tell me since i have some skills.

That's what the Apple support staff told me, but I don't have a lot of faith that they really know what is going on at the mo'. If they did, I'm sure it would have been fixed by now. I'm no tech genius, but it seems strange that a server issue affects only certain users. Like thaleb, my phone is currently useless (coincidentally after an iOS update), but my children and partner (with the same model devices that have been updated on the same date) are unaffected.
