iOS 9.3 - Safari/Mail freezes after clicking links on iPhone 6S

Hi,

Never had any problems with my iPhone 6S. Just upgraded to iOS 9.3 without any issues. After the upgrade, I can't click links when searching something on Google in Safari or clicking a link in the Mail, the apps just freeze.

I tried clearing Safari history data/cache, closing all apps and restarting the phone (both regular and holding both home/power key), disabling all sorts of settings form Safari settings, but no luck.. Anyone with an idea how to sort it out?

I have the same problem with mail, Safari, and messages. Links work with the gmail app. Links work in Chrome but only with a long click to get the option to open in a new tab. It appears this has happened before with 9.2.1 but I could not find an answer that fixed the problem. I do not think it started until 24 hours after the update. iPhone 6s+ 128gb 9.3.

Same problem on my new iPhone 6s Plus 64GB. After two days since I updated to iOS 9.3 safari and the links from other apps just freeze.

Also I noticed that the battery life is shorter for 1/3 of the time after the update. It is so frustrating since it is a one month old iPhone and after few weeks of being happy not to charge it all the time like my old iPhone 6, same problem again.

Really Apple needs to fix this battery issue also. Does anyone noticed the lower capacity of the battery too?

As a fellow developer, nice to see you have so much faith in Apple.🙂 Your post appears to center on your comment:

"It is easy to see why a beta didn't catch this anomaly."

Yet a quick search on the Internet (yes, I know that this is difficult if you are a victim like myself of this issue), will quickly illustrate that Apple *was* made aware of these issues. Check out:

This is just an example. There are many more.

I would love to defend Apple. I'm an ex-employee. A shareholder even😟.😟 I just think that what many people here are asking for is an honest admission that there are problems with the release, and an indication of when a fix can be expected. Despite the attempts of some to dismiss it, this is a serious problem. It downgrades the usefulness of the iPhone to a degree that justifies suggesting a move to an alternative platform: one that works. People are losing many hours doing complete restores, only to find the issue returning. We can of course blame Booking.com and others. Handy to have a scapegoat, but it would be nice if Apple is open with their clients. Or do they really prefer to take the Volkswagen approach: "What their customers don't know won't hurt them?". That worked well. 😉😉 And yes, I've seen the comments on this board such as "I spoke to a guy who knows a guy who works at iOS chat/support whatever that says - Apple are working on it. #1 priority". But does that mean very much? An opinion of a random voice on a phone or on a chat line. I know a guy down the chip shop who swears he's Elvis (to quote a very old song), but it doesn't make it true😉😝

Go on Apple. Try harder. Think Different (to quote an even older Apple slogan) - and ending once more with an ancient song: "Keep the customer satisfied". After all - they pay for your shiny offices 😉

I've enjoyed this discussion board.... even seen potential romances bloom in another (similar) thread… but Apple is silent. Cue another Simon & Garfunkel number, but I don't want to show my age. Have a nice day everyone🙂

Is completely unacceptable that Apple don´t fix this problem right now!

For a terminal with a 1000€ cost not being able of surfing is a big problem!

None of the temporary solutions said works. Not to mention disable javascript recommended by Apple that only work in Safary with some specific pages.

What a desperation!

Agree - Even if there some temp fix - Apple need to put an announcement to help the affected users .

For example if they know the presence of some Apps such as Booking.com ? etc are creating the issue then tell us the names of these apps so that we can our essential email and browser functions working again !.. All we have is days of silence ....

Thank you PAperson for all your efforts in summarizing & categorizing the discussion. Having seen this thread go from just a few posts to what it is now, I think it'll very helpful to those people who've joined later. The whole situation is frustrating for so many users (me included) and hopefully it will be resolved soon.

You are showng a screenshot of a 9.3 version (...27) and asking for a comparison. Constructive idea, there.

This is a shot of my version. I have the link issue in Safari. I don't use Apple Mail - can't speak to that. My version appears to be a higher number (...33 versus your ...27). I don't know if that means Apple has quietly removed the ...33 version and substituted an earlier ...27 version or not.
I wish there were a way to address this also to the ex-Apple employee regarding how to read these numbers. Common sense tells me lower number is earlier, but it's more efficient to be sure. Would be nice if Apple could confirm they are now pushing a "last known good" version. :-)

Anyone else care to chime it, please have at it.

In case this helps somebody, here's how to screenshot and upload: I screenshot (hold the lone sleep/shutdown key on the right side of 6S and press the round home button - saves the shot to the photos collection), opened photo roll, chose the photo, emailed to myself from the iPhone, opened in a photo editor on the laptop, saved as .jpg rather than the .png it came in as from the iPhone, initiated this reply, clicked on the camera icon (add and image), "chose" the file to upload from the PC, confirmed the upload, and started adding comments.

My version ..27 is from my iPad and your ..33 is from your iPhone I presume. Might this be the explanation of the different make of IOS 9.3?

Anyway, now we know two of them and neither works.

As a temp solution I have now changed my email account to forward all incoming mail to my Gmail account and using the Gmail app I get the mail links working.

LInks are in my case opened in the Chrome app and that seems to be working as well.
