I am using iPhone 4s.
My friend had some *.ipa files with him. So I took it from him, and now when I am trying to install it using itunes, it does not install.
What should I do?

What you are talking about would be piracy which is against the law. You would need to purchase those apps for yourself; your friend does not have the right to redistribute them.
For the technical aspect, apps are tied to the Apple ID that was used to purchase them.
Probably won't install because the apps were not purchased with your AppleID.

You should never download any ipa files from anywhere.
All apps are tied to an Apple ID.
Do it only by using your computer iTunes or directly using your iPhone App Store.
