network settings wont load

I have macbook pro retina 2013. I updated to 10.11.4. When I try to "open network preferences" from the signal bar at the top , a window is opened without any network adapters. When I try to click any button, I see the busy circle and I cannot do anything. I tried to rename the below files so that MAC would create/reset the setting, but did not help. Can anyone suggest what to do ?

susarla:/ susarla$ cd Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration

susarla:SystemConfiguration susarla$ ls

CaptiveNetworkSupport com.apple.captive.probe.plist

CaptiveNetworkSupport~previous com.apple.nat.plist

NetworkInterfaces.plist com.apple.network.eapolclient.configuration.plist

com.apple.Boot.plist com.apple.smb.server.plist

com.apple.PowerManagement.plist com.apple.wifi.message-tracer.plist

com.apple.accounts.exists.plist preferences.plist

com.apple.airport.preferences.plist preferences.plist.old

susarla:SystemConfiguration susarla$ cp com.apple.airport.preferences.plist ori.com.apple.airport.preferences.plist.ori

cp: ori.com.apple.airport.preferences.plist.ori: Permission denied

susarla:SystemConfiguration susarla$ sudo cp com.apple.airport.preferences.plist ori.com.apple.airport.preferences.plist.ori

Password:

susarla:SystemConfiguration susarla$ sudo cp NetworkInterfaces.plist ori.NetworkInterfaces.plist.ori

susarla:SystemConfiguration susarla$ sudo cp preferences.plist ori.preferences.plist.ori

susarla:SystemConfiguration susarla$ sudo cp com.apple.nat.plist ori.com.apple.nat.plist.ori

Please triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration

Right-click or control-click the line and select

Services ▹ Open

from the contextual menu.* A folder named "SystemConfiguration" should open. Move the contents of that folder to the Trash, except the file with this name:

com.apple.Boot.plist

Leave that file where it is.

You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and test.

If there's no change, restore each of the items you deleted from a backup, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place.

If the problem is resolved, you may need to recreate some of your settings in the Network and Energy Saver preference panes.

*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select

Go ▹ Go to Folder...

from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You may not see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
