My Apple Pencil has developed a crack

I bought the Apple Pencil with the new iPad Pro in December 2015. After using it very lightly and never dropping or abuseing it in any way, shape or form, a hairline crack appeared about 1/2" from the tip. This crack appeared with only 3 1/2 months of use.

It seems to be in the same proximity of the threads for the replaceable tip. It is also in the same orientation as the threads.

I brought it to an Apple Store and because I'm one of the first to come across this problem they would not even-Steven exchange it but would sell me just the pencil for 80 dollars.

I'm pretty sure that something was missed in the engineering of this pencil and the threads create a stress raiser, causing this crack.

I really do not have a question, I just wanted to put this out there for others who may run into the same issue.

Thanks,

Brock

It was your whole “engineering flaw” statement that urged me to reply.

That statement/assertion, at this early stage in the life of the Apple Pencil, is simply a ridiculous one to state.

Even more so from an engineer.

BTW, I worked for a product engineering firm for the first 20 years of my career.

I worked in product design and engineering.

I, also, worked in packaging design and manufacturing for over 5 years.

So, I know a little something about this, also.
