iPhone 6S, Visual Voice Mail not working

Hello, Visual Voice mail not working when iPhone 6S is connected to wifi and LTE. Works if you turn wifi off. Very inconvenient. Have tried 4 new iPhones this month and have the same problem. Bought the first 2 from the Apple Store. Apple Genius rep could not fix. Apple Care + could not fix. T Mobile said their version of the phone was different. Returned phones to Apple, got two (wife and I) new ones from T Mobile. Same problem. T Mobile cannot fix. T Mobile says it is an Apple issue. My Android phone worked fine. I am caught in the middle.

You are incorrect and have not read my post correctly. I am not just using wifi. I have cellular data (LTE) turned on and have wifi turned on also. I have a good signal on each. Visual voicemail only works when when wifi is off.off I am not avoiding the cellular capability. My communications with TMobile and Apple says it is suppose to work and each blame each other. To turn off wifi just so the visual voicemail will work is not a solution. If I do a download of an app or update the operating system I want wifi turned on for obvious reasons. Nothing and nobody, including Apple and Tmobile says I can only have cellular on to get visual voicemail. I have logged over 30 hours talking to Apple and Tmobile and neither can solve the problem or will admit it is there problem, but both say it is suppose to work. They blame each other. Hence, I will be going back to Android. I have had the 5, 5s, and then went to Android and now back to the 6s. Had no problems until I got the 6s.

Disable the feature for WiFi Calling under Settings>Phone>WiFi Calling. You can keep WiFi on. After this, if you still experience this issue while connected to WiFi, I agree. That is weird. Until then, it is a Carrier Feature that is available through iOS software and as you explained that you do not have issues with your cell service signal, why create a mountain out of a molehill? This feature was meant to assist those in areas with little to no Cell Service.

I haven't seen it mentioned yet, so it's worth mentioning that the signal strength of your WiFi does not signify its quality. What sort of broadband speed are you paying for? Could this be something to consider? You've looked everywhere else. That is, if you still wish to look into this at all. If you're looking at 3 Mbps Download speeds to share with your entire household, I can't see that not playing some factor in the quality of use of WiFi Calling.

That seems rather strange, since I have VVM working on my devices here with wi-fi turned on at all times. I never turn it off. Something else is in play here since you say the only way to get VVM to work is to turn off wi-fi. If that is the case, then why would mine work with wi-fi on? Has T-Mobile ever tried re-provisioning your account? Have they tried resetting your voicemail? I still believe that either something is wrong with the way that the wi-fi calling is setup on their system, or with the way your voicemail is setup.

I would like to confirm a similar problem with VVM not receiving voicemails in a timely way is occurring on the Verizon network as well..

We have experienced a similar problem on Verizon network with iPhone 6s units running the latest iOS.

Today, I had a user come to my office showing me he had not received any voice mail messages in two days even though an associated had asked him why he didn't respond to a voicemail left on Tuesday. For two days, he had been on both LTE and WiFi.

I called his phone from my iPhone 6s, left a voicemail, and immediately saw multiple voicemail items appear. One of which was the voicemail from Tuesday evening that he could not find.

WiFi calling was not enabled on either devices.

WiFi was enabled at that time on both devices.

Later this evening, while outside of the office and not connected to WiFi, I noticed I didn't have a voice mail since Tuesday evening either. Just as a test, I reset my phone and a voicemail from 3pm today showed up. That was done at 7pm tonight.

There is a definite problem with VVM delays.

We are now working through the changing of voicemail passwords and reset of network settings and monitoring the issue.

T-Mobile. I had the exact same phone on AT&T with iOS 9.2 and had no issues with VVM using AT&T WiFi calling. So this is either:

1) An issue with T-Mobile regardless of iOS version (something with how they implement VVM/Wifi Calling)

2) An issue with T-Mobile on iOS 9.3 (can anyone reproduce this with iOS 9.2.1 on T-Mobile?)

3) An issue with iOS 9.3 regardless of carrier. (Anyone on ATT/VZ/Other seeing this issue?)

My hunch says its #1, but lets collect some data. Onec we get some replies I'm going to forward this thread to T-Mobile and get them to look into it. In fact, when I tweeted a separate issue regarding reception at RDU Airport I CC'ed John Legere and got a call from the executive office in 48 hours. So with the appropriate data I think we can get this escalated appropriately at TMo.

To be honest, I've not seen anyone I know have issues with VVM, but then T-Mobile is not real popular where I live. And as you said, I don't see this a big story. I really don't believe it is your phone, or phones. I believe it to be a T-Mobile issue and they have not provisioned your account correctly. It is not the phone in my opinion. And I realize you don't have to believe in my opinion, but again, it is not a widespread issue. If it was, there would be a great deal of traffic about it here, and there isn't.

In reading this entire thread, it seems the common denominator here is wi-fi calling, both on W-Mobile, your first carrier, and then the second poster stating the issue with AT&T. Visual Voicemail, as well as any other version of voicemail requires the cellular data system. If you are avoiding the cellular data system with wi-fi calling, or have cellular data turned off, you will not get voicemail. My guess at this point, is the carriers need to have a method for you to receive your voicemail if you are only using their wi-fi calling system. I suggest you contact the carriers again and explain what seems to be happening here. My guess is they are going to have to work through this if you are not getting their cellular signal and just using their wi-fi calling system.

I'm not sure how I'm incorrect, as your post said no where that you had cellular data on. I'm not saying to turn wi-fi off. I am saying that with an iPhone 6s on AT&T, which is where one of the posters came from, Visual Voicemail works just fine. I just reinforced that cellular data is required for VVM, but that it seems there is an issue with the use of wi-fi calling. If you do have a cellular signal and are still using wi-fi calling, then it is a different story. Most people use wi-fi calling due to a lack of cellular signal.

I don't doubt you have logged several hours in support, but as indicated by others earlier, the function of VVM is on the carrier, not Apple. I can say that I have seen a number of threads in the past describing issues with T-Mobile and their wi-fi calling, and I do know that AT&T delayed the release of their wi-fi calling due to problems in some areas. I don't know that VVM was any part of it.

From the end of your final post, it seems you are no longer interested in troubleshooting the issue, since there seems to be a lot of finger pointing. You are free to purchase any device you wish, and if a device using the Android operating system fits your needs, then good luck.

All, Thanks for the replys. I have already tried just turning off wifi calling to no avail. I don't use wifi for calling. But having it turned on should not make a difference and it doesn't. With wifi calling on I even set the preference to use cellular for calling. Only way to get visual voice mail to work is to completely turn off wifi. Also I pay for 30 mbps download speed for my wifi. It typically runs close to that when I test it. My wife and I are the only users, Bandwidth would not be a problem. I just chatted with Apple a few minutes ago and pointed them to these posts. They are escalating the issue. Will see what happens.

Okay cool. Yeah, that information will be extremely helpful in pinpointing and isolating the issue. Hoping for the best

Hope you can reach a good conclusion. I have not been able to. I have changed voicemail passwords, reset network setting, restored from iTunes backup and talked to about everyone I can think of. I have two 6s phones with the problem. Only difference I can see from your description is that if I am not actively connected to a wifi network VVM seems to work even if I have wifi turned on. But if I am in my favorite coffee shop of my home office, where I am connected to a wifi network, VVM does not work...unless I turn wifi off. Apple has not been able to solve the problem, even when I took the phones to the Apple store Genius bar, and T-Mobile opened a ticket with their technical group, but to no avail. Please let me know if you come up with a solution. Thanks

T Mobile is passing the buck here, as visual voicemail is a carrier feature and not an Apple feature.

Not sure this is the answer. Apple provides the capability on the iPhone. If the iPhone cannot handle the visual voicemail when wifi is turned on, and this is a feature of T Mobile (calling utilizing wifi), why would Apple provide a device to one of their providers if it did not work. Apple advertises T Mobile as one of their providers. Apple says nothing about functions of the phone not working with them. Same with T Mobile. If, as they say, Visual Voice mail does not work in this manner, why would T Mobile not state as much? I am stuck with 2 iPhones that do not function as promised by Apple and T Mobile. Suggest they get their stories correct and if I was Apple I would not use T Mobile as a provider/resaler. If I was T Mobile I would not sell/service their device.

Visual voicemail

Visual voicemail lets you see a list of your messages and choose which one to listen to or delete,

without having to wade through all of them. A badge on the Voicemail icon tells you how many unheard messages you have.

The first time you tap Voicemail, you’re asked to create a voicemail password and record your voicemail greeting.
