Mar 30, 2016 2:50 AM in response to thunderzzzby Ntobe,Hi!
Thanks for this. I tried everything but it didn't seem to work.
I put my headsets on and my calls went back to normal. But now, if I take the headsets out, it's back to not being heard again.

Mar 31, 2016 5:42 AM in response to Ntobeby SunOfRa78,Sounds like your main microphone is faulty, or you have something stuck in the holes. On the bottom of your phone, the microphone is behind the holes next to the headphone socket. Give them a clean out and see if there is any difference. A good way to test that microphone is to record a voice memo, and play it back.
If cleaning doesn't solve your problem then you have a couple of options. You can exchange your phone at Apple. Will cost USD$269.
Alternatively, you can forgo post warranty support from Apple and find a reputable independent repairer who can replace the microphone for $50-$70.

Mar 31, 2016 5:54 AM in response to Ntobeby redsoxgirl1982,It is common with the 5 and 5S. I know because when I first got my 5 (I have a 6S now) about 2 months later my phone did the exact same thing. They had me do a hard reset and that worked for like a day then it did it again. I had to go to apple and get a new phone. Which they wouldn't give me a new one but a refurbished one which I thought was stupid.

Mar 31, 2016 6:28 AM in response to redsoxgirl1982by Ntobe,so it's a manufacturing fault? This is my second 5s and the first one worked perfectly fine (my hands are too small for the 6 series so I prefer the 5s). It is really frustrating because now I figured out that call sound works fine when the call is on speaker.
Guess I won't have much choice but to switch to the 6.

Mar 31, 2016 6:30 AM in response to SunOfRa78by Ntobe,Thanks so much for this!
I don't think there is any dirt yet cos the phone is still pretty new but, I will definitely give it a good clean and hopefully that works.
I think getting a newer version of the iPhone will be a good idea cos it seems like this is a recurring problem with the 5s that can't really be "fixed."
Thanks again for your suggestions.

Mar 31, 2016 2:40 PM in response to Ntobeby SunOfRa78,No worries.
It's a problem which occurs with ALL iPhones. It's not specific to the iPhone 5S. It's not really common or un-common. It's just a normal problem which can randomly occur like most problems with mass produced products.
And like all problems, it can be fixed.

Apr 2, 2016 6:25 PM in response to SunOfRa78by Cditch,It is not dirt in the speaker. Ever since I did the update on my iPhone 6, many calls have been screwed up. I can hear the person I called, but they cannot hear me and vice versa. It cannot be some stupid reason like dirt in my microphone because it is happening all 3 iphone 6's in my family. What is going on apple? These are my wife and my first apple products and so far we absolutely hate them. I wish I had my android phone back.

Apr 2, 2016 8:00 PM in response to Cditchby SunOfRa78,Hi Cditch,
If the problem is switching from your microphone, to your speaker and back again, then it's very unlikely to be a problem with dirt. Especially if all 3 phones are doing the same thing.
It's most likely going to be a software problem, or a problem with your carrier.
Try doing a backup and restoring the phone again through iTunes. See if that make a difference.
