Playing videos from a USB on an Ipad

I would like to play videos that are on my USB on an Ipad. Is this possible, and if so, how do I do it.

iPad 2, iOS 9.3

It's not possible.

You can trick it, but you can't play from the USB, the file has to be on your iPad.

What you do is take your video files, give them names of 8 characters (basically you're going to trick the ipad into thinking you're importing videos you shot with your camera, so you need to duplicate a camera's naming convention....a folder named DCIM, then files with names of 8 characters.)

You will then import the files onto your ipad. Open them in the photos app, which might bring up the video app, and let you watch them.

And I would recommend not using a USB but using a SD card since most USB drives trigger a 'device requires too much power' failure.

On the other hand, you could look into various wireless flash or harddrives, the Kingston WiDrive being just an example. They work by creating a localized wifi hotspot that you connect your iPad to and then use the app to stream the content.
