Help with Apple battery charger?

Due to my Apple Magic mouse needing replacement batteries at least every 25 days and my Belkin YourType Keypad needing replacement batteries every day, I purchased the Apple battery charger from Best Buy since the Apple online store no longer offers it. How do I know when the device is finished charging? Best Buy reviewers speak about a blinking orange light meaning battery is defective. I can't tell when the charger is finished charging. Does it chime? Does it blink? Does it beep? Best Buy website only mentions that it reduces the amount of power it draws when it finishes charging. I want to know when it is finished charging. Anyone else go through Duracell batteries in their Magic Mouse in less than 25 days?

Hello Rebekkah

I have used a Apple charger for some years. Plugged into the mains and with batteries inserted, the charger will immediately go orrange and will stay that way until the batteries are fully charged. At that point the little light will turn green and the batteries themselvesz will feel warm to the touch. When they are charged that charge will hold for some weeks, depreciating slowly. As the batteries cool, that light will go off but the batteries themselves will remain charged. Use a battery strength indicator as a final check.

If you don't get an orange light at the start, chances are your batteries are not long enough to complete the + & - connection. Genuine Duracell rarely have this problem. Wriggle them about to see if that makes a difference but do not be tempted to use tin foil packing to make up the length; test another battery.

Hi seventy one, Thanks for the info about the orange light changing to green. Best Buy has nothing on their site about how to know when the charge is complete, and I cannot read the tiny, tiny print in the included documentation. I bought the Apple battery charger with included batteries. I didn't know Duracell made rechargeable batteries. I got the orange light at the start. It never changed to green. However, after reading your reply, I plugged the charger back into the outlet, and magically the light turned green immediately. So I put a second set of batteries in the charger, and now I have a blinking orange light. Because of reading all the discussions about the blinking light being fixed by cleaning contacts and batteries, I tries this. It worked. Now I have solid orange light, and will wait to see how long to achieve green light. Thanks for the reply and help.

Hi seventy one, Will you please help me again? Apple finally has replaced my Magic Mouse 1. Today the new one arrived. I have tried 10 sets of fully charged batteries. No matter what I put in the new mouse, the green light goes to blinking almost immediately. I thought this meant that the batteries needed to be replaced. These are fully charged batteries. Any suggestions? I put them into the mouse correctly. I turn it on. I click it to make it connect. Bluetooth is turned on. Help me please? 😁 RRR

Hi seventy one - I am using brand new Duracell Gold and Duracell Quantum, and Apple Rechargeable Batteries. I finally got the mouse to show up in System Preferences - Bluetooth and was finally able to pair it using the old mouse. Thanks for the reply. I appreciate all the information, I saw some comments that seem to me to indicate that others in the community believe that the new Magic Mouse 2 works better with OS X El Capitan. Do you concur? Best Regards, RRR
