iOS 9.3.1 bluetooth problems?

I have just updated my iPhone 6 to iOS 9.3.1, my Garmin Fenix 3 now won't connect and similar issues in my car and bluetooth speakers. I have reset network settings with no luck. I have done a soft reset on the phone and 'forgot devices' and attempted to re-pair once again with no luck. The devices are now not showing up as visible on the device.

Is anyone else experiencing bluetooth issues with iOS 9.3.1

I have several Bluetooth devices I use with both my iPhone 6 Plus and my iPad (3rd gen., wifi only). After the last couple of iOS upgrades, some of them seem to have stopped working. The one I use most is the Jabra Play v0.1.0 (since discontinued by the manufacturer) Bluetooth receiver/dongle that not only made any pair of wired earbuds usable as wireless, but also used multipoint technology to connect to both the iPad and iPhone simultaneously, and switched seamlessly between the two. As a result I could be watching a movie or playing a game on the iPad, and take a call on the iPhone without fumbling to get my earbuds off, etc.

Since upgrading both devices to iOS 9.3.1, however, the Jabra Play no longer works properly. It will connect to both the iPad and iPhone, and works properly with the iPad, but there's no sound from the iPhone even though it's connected. If the iPad is disconnected, then it works properly with the iPhone. I've gone through the process of having both devices "forget" the Jabra Play, and re-pairing them with the Jabra play. I've also gone through the process of resetting the Jabra Play itself and re-pairing it with both devices. Neither strategy worked.

I'm reluctant to replace with Jabra just yet, since it appears the Bluetooth problem may be a bug with iOS, and I'd hate to buy a new device only experience the same problems with connecting to multiple devices.

Has anyone else had similar issues with multipoint Bluetooth devices?

Although I do not own any Garmin device I am also experiencing bluetooth problems since I upgraded to iOS 9.3.0 and persist under iOS 9.3.1

The issue is with my BT connection in my car, Ford Focus dated year 2010, that has been working fine ever since. Now I experience intermitent hiccups and click-alike noises when playing music over BT but not with voice calls. I tried with a second iphone with iOS version 9.3.1 too and the problems are the same.

I do not know what Apple did to BT but it really ruined my audio experience.

Dear Fermin,

I am so happy to find someone who has the same issue!

I have a Ford Fiesta dated 2009, everything was perfect before this update and now it's like my music is played by an old Vinyl player when connected to BT...

I don't know if this is only with "old" Ford models but this is really unpleasant.

I have tried with another car for 2 minutes, I had no problem...

If you find a solution, please let me know.

Thanks.

Hi Rolca69,

The only solution I can think of is updating the radio car firmware. I did so in 2011 when I purchased my first iphone and I was having problems. But Ford has removed the link I used that time: http://www.ford-mobile-connectivity.com/downloadsUpdates

So I am looking around forums looking for an answer and the closest I got is this thread. Do have a look and let's see if that works for you. The firmware update process was straightforward when I did it back in 2011 but beware since the download that they provide in the thread is not an official one. I am going to try apply it this week and I'll let you know:

Hi,

I've concluded that this is an IOS problem. My iPhone 6 worked perfectly, until upgrading to 9.3.1 where all my bluetooth devices became unstable and/or stopped working:

- Garmin Fenix 3 (working, but with connectivity issues)

- Garmin Edge 1000 (SmartLink not working)

- BMW Navigator V (unable to receive calls while driving)

- Scala PackTalk (pairing OK, but app not working)

Having an older iPad mini running IOS 9.0, all devices work flawlessly. Troubleshooting BT devices, I discovered that when altering their screen name, IOS 9.3.1 does not detect it (tested on Edge1000 and Navigator V).

Hopefully Apple will issue an IOS update soon - seems like more and more people asks the web for "9.3.1 bluetooth trouble".

I do think the problem is iOS 9.1.3 too. I tried with a second iphone device with the same iOS version and the problem persists. I recommend calling Apple support because they must know about this. I am not chanching my car because of this, I'd rather move to Android.

I also updated my radio car firmware version to the latest available and the problem is still there.

Well, yes sorta. I decided to upgrade our home phone system—had been using a Samsung Gusto flip phone BTed to a VTech 6322-4 system—replacing the Gusto with an iPhone SE (9.3.1). OMG! Divorce after 55 years? It may come to that. The Gusto always stayed connected, only disconnecting when out-of-range, but reconnecting automatically, when back in range. Not the iPhone (9.3.1). It disconnects, randomly--even only a foot away from the VTech base--and has to be manually reconnected. Further, I still have a connection 45 feet away, with several intervening interior walls. And while the VTech is suppose to allow connections to two BT phones, well forget that feature: Can only connect and use one phone at a time, this time a handshaking/selection issue.

I also have had endless problems with BT since the upgrade. Can no longer connect properly to my Garmin Edge 520, even after a factory reset on the Garmin. Another post has mentioned backing up the phone and doing a wipe and restore of my iPhone 6s, but that is extraordinarily painful given I have some work VPN apps etc which will need resubmission through my IT dept before I can reactivate. Fenix 3 connectivity is inconsistent. My Mercedes connectivity works fine for calls, but can no longer receive txt messages through the car.

Honestly, Apple, given the huge volume of complaints about this one would think you'd fix it quickly.

After 6 years of being on iPhones I think this will be my last... I'm kinda getting jack of Apple's approach to this sort of stuff.

I recommend to anyone experiencing this kind of problems call support and open a ticket. I did so and after going through some workarounds that have been mentioned on this thread, I refused to apply the last one which is to wipe off the phone then restore from a backup.

I also confirmed that I am experiencing problems with another iphone with iOS version 9.3.1 that was also working fine before the update.

Finally I was transferred to a higher support level and they confirmed that the problem is not on my phone, the settings nor are they in my car audio system but that the problem is in iOS 9.3.1 and that they are working on a fix.

Apple, I did not pay 1,000 $ for a phone that works this crappy, I am also in fear whenever you launch a new update. I am also in doubt that my next phone will be an Apple.

Same problem here. 64GB Verizon iPhone 6 on the latest 9.3.2. Ever since 9.3.1, my phone has to be within approximately 1ft for it to work. Otherwise, the audio is garbage and breaks up. My bluetooth headphones are unusuble. Luckily in my car, I have a mount - but if I have my phone in my pocket, the audio breaks up. This is ridiculous that Apple hasn't even acknowledged this. I opened a support case with Apple a few weeks ago about this, but never heard back.

I've done a complete factory restore from scratch. Set everything up again, unpaired/re-repaired all devices. Nothing works. I don't want to sound cliche, but I'm an network engineer for a living, so troubleshooting an iOS device is easy. I don't need some level 1 tech support from India to tell me how to reset my network settings. This is a firmware/software issue that Apple needs to fix. I've had zero issues up until I updated my phone to 9.3.1. My wife's phone is still pre 9.3, and she has no issues. Literally the same day that I updated my phone to 9.3.1, my GPS would lose signal right next to hers. My wifi signal went to crap, and bluetooth devices are screwed up.
