Why do my audio recorded waves look square?

Question

Why do my audio recorded waves look square?

I feel like it's just a view option I'm not finding, but when I set a Piano using EW to output as a bus, and an audio to record from that bus, the waves recorded from the bus appear as shown; it also appears like this in the wave editor! The sound is perfectly fine, but I can't accurately edit the wave with the preposterous view. Could someone help me?

And they appear like this for every recorded sound. I know for a fact that the waves can't possible look like this. Is the recording bit rate?

It seems I'm not the first to experience this issue. It's happened in the past.

What is your recording file format, if it's a compressed format or in a CAF "container" I bet that's the problem and since your Recording File type is a preference it's going to affect more than one projects.

Go Into Logic's Preferences/Audio or Preferences General look for Recording File Type set it to either Wav or Aiff. I use Broadcast Wav Format.

It appears to AIFF type. But I that doesn't seem to be the issue, after already testing the recordings in different formats.
I also found that it is not just the recordings. I went beck to a project that contained a sample of white noise and there too the waveform was blocky.

Ok, time to delete preferences and see if that helps. You will have to reset some of them.

Delete the Logic 10 preferences file.

In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder from the menu.
Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field. (Note: Type exactly as shown) ----> ~/Library/Preferences
Press the Go button.
Remove the com.apple.logic10.plist file from the Preferences folder. Note that if you have programmed any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults. You may wish to export your custom key command as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro User Manual for details on how to do this. .

Sorry for the super late reply;

The Recording Delay is set to 0.

As for the waveform display option in the View panel, the Show as Sample and Hold is not selectable. What do I have to do to be able to click it?

Important:

In Logic's Preferences/Audio is the Recording Delay set to 0 (zero) the center position?

Do you have Logic set to run in a lower resolution, or is your display set to a lower resolution than your screen calls for.

How do you adjust the resolution on logic? I don't believe the display itself would have to do anything to do with if zooming still doesn't help.

Also, right click on the Logic Icon in the Applications folder, select get info see if there's a resolution setting there.

So I tried the "resolution setting" first, no luck there.

Then I tried deleting the preferences file you directed me to. Restarted logic, retested, still no luck, waveforms still appear blockish.

I'm officially stumped... there used to be a setting in Logic that would draw low-res waveforms in order to enhance redraw speed but I'm pretty sure that was removed years ago.
