Is Sprint's iPhone SE unlocked?
If I buy a Sprint's iPhone SE and select the "Pay in full" option, does the iPhone come unlocked?

Just because you pay for a device in full does not guarantee it to be unlocked. You would still need to request the unlock from Sprint. The best way to get an unlocked phone at the start is to purchase an unlocked phone directly from Apple.
Yes, I'm also curious about what happens in the Apple Store when purchasing the Sprint version. I have a friend who's traveling to the States and I don't want to burden him with any bureaucracy, but I would prefer the A1723 model....unlocked of course.
Is it as simple as asking for the Sprint phone and paying in full OR do you have to provide personal details and open a Sprint contract?
(When selecting Sprint on the apple.com, you are asked to choose from a range of contract options and all of them come with a monthly fee.)
Thanks
I was just chatting to sprint support, and they at least offer you to get a no-credit-check plan with the iPhone SE if you buy it from them at full price.
Also, she told me it's possible to quit the plan after 6 months (I did not ask about shorter) and get the phone unlocked.
I'd still prefer to buy it from Apple without any plan, but at least now I have a plan B...
These conversation really helps me, thanks!
I also confirm this: if you buy an iPhone SE A1723 (Spring) from an Apple store, it is UNLOCKED. I just bought one. I am not a Spring customer. I turned on the phone and follow the instruction and complete the setup process with the Spring SIM card (it is a empty one, no phone number associated with it). To prove it is unlocked, I inserted my own H2O SIM card (H2O wireless uses AT&T network), and voice call works.
Cheers!
Cool, thanks! Now I just have to hope to find an Apple store that also hast the Sprint version available..
Cheers!
Hi and congrats on your new iphone!
Just 2 questions 2 clarify:
1. I thought all US apple stores are out of iphone se stock. Where did you get yours or have the stores been re-stocked?
2. If you ask for the Sprint phone, do you have to sign up for a Sprint contract or is it as simple as buying the Sim-free version?
thx
I bought my iPhone SE a1723 from an Apple Store in IL. I paid it in full. No Spring contract, and I am not even a spring customer. It is effectively a SIM free phone. It does come with an empty Spring SIM card , just for setup.
Hi, great and helpful discussion. I'm traveling to the States next month and I'm into buying new Iphone SE Sprint (international version) in order to work properly in my country. I have a question: does Sprint sim card in only needed for the first time activation or its needed for every activation after master reset? Thank you in advance.
Just take Sprint sim card out and insert yours for the initial setup & activation. You can activate it with WiFi only.
HI! Did you buy your iPhone se sprint unlocked version online on Apple.com or you bought it in the local Apple Store?
I bought my iphone SE a1723 (spring version) unlocked from a local Apple Store.
Do you know is it possible to buy iphone model a1723 sprint "pay in full" unlocked online? oe it's possible only buying from local store?
No I don't know if you can buy it unlocked online from apple.com.
Also confirmed, when buying iPhone 1723 in local US Apple Store, you get absolutely unlocked iPhone. Inside have Sprint SIM, pls activate your iPhone with this SIM. After that will use any your SIM card.
Buy a Sprint version online at the Apple Store, pay in full price, the iPhone SE would be A1723 and unlocked.
Can you differentiate Sprint from Spring? Or that's because of auto-correction?
