Is Sprint's iPhone SE unlocked?
If I buy a Sprint's iPhone SE and select the "Pay in full" option, does the iPhone come unlocked?

Just because you pay for a device in full does not guarantee it to be unlocked. You would still need to request the unlock from Sprint. The best way to get an unlocked phone at the start is to purchase an unlocked phone directly from Apple.
just had chat with Sprint support:
It would be best to have this confirmed by Apple. Here in my end, I can only confirmed if the device is unlock if I am able to check through the ESN of the phone.
Then you or the OP should contact Apple directly. No one here will be able to give the "confirmation " that the OP seeks.
Have you tried to contact Apple?
yep. this is the answer:
Sure, it has the capability to be unlocked by Sprint. However, when you initially buy it, it’ll be locked to Sprint and require you to check out online with a Sprint account...
... you would have to go to Sprint directly to fully unlock it.
So as the OP has found out the original answers offered here by people who have a lot of experience were correct. I hope this is "confirmation" enough.
I saw a user on a forum saying that his sprint version iphone se, pay in full, purchased directly from apple store (not online) is unlocked.

And I've read online where people said they were abducted by aliens. 😉
Call Sprint and/or Apple and ask them.
Haha. Previously I have a online chat with Apple people and I asked them about the sprint A1723. They didn't have a clear answer and suggested me to walk into a store to ask there. At least that user is the only one I saw who claimed so and provided evidence. I hope more people can test if this is true. I want to buy one to test but iphone se is now out of stock.
The store manager at our local Sprint store is a relative of mine.
He just informed me that Sprint straight-up does not sell unlocked iPhones.
You are right. All iPhones sold either by Sprint store or their online store are locked. So the only possible chance of getting a unlocked A1723 model right now is to purchase it from an local Apple store and pay in full. But I am not 100% sure, so we really need someone to confirm it. Here is the guy who posted his iphone se A1723 is unlocked (in Chinese). http://tieba.baidu.com/p/4448923688
Yeah. He said he bought the Sprint iPhone SE (A1723) in full price from Apple store and it works with his AT&T SIM card.

So call Apple or go into a store and ask. Everything else is hearsay.

Another option is to buy the unlocked version in Canada haha.
Confirmed! I bought a A1723 iPhone SE from Apple store today and it is unlocked🙂. And the apple people said that all models sold in store are unlocked unless you want to have a contact with the carrier.
Hi,
did you have to have or get a sprint contract with the phone? I've heard different things about whether or not it is possible to get the A1723 without a sprint contract...
