iBooks message - iCloud storage full (but isn't)

Hi,

I turned on iCloud sync for iBooks after upgrading to OS X 10.11.4. Now I get a message that sync is not possible as my iCloud storage is full. But I have a 1TB plan with 650 GB of free space left.

I assume that it is a problem as I have two accounts:

1) The iTunes Store account (myname@mydomain.com), which is older than iCloud is

2) The iCloud account (myname@icloud.com) which has the storage (650 GB space left)

In iBooks I am logged in to my store account (1), which is necessary to buy content. Maybe iBooks tries to sync with this account? Can I setup iBooks to use my storage from my iCloud account (2)?

I am still very confused with all my accounts (actually there are 2 more accounts due to some reasons). There is still no possibility to merge all accounts into one?

Thanks for any input!

I had this problem, and may have found a solution.

Before finding this thread, I downloaded a PDF to my iBooks from Dropbox and got the warning "your iCloud is full...blah blah". It added the PDF nonetheless. After checking, it shows I have 171GB of space in my iCloud storage.

After reading this thread, I decided to click on some preferences. I have found most problems we have are in the settings.

I clicked on iBooks(top bar)-Preferences-General(pop up window), then on the bottom there is a box: Reset Dialog Warnings [Reset Warnings].

I clicked it, then downloaded another PDF and I got no warning.

Hope this helps.

I had the same problem.

The solution for me was:

  1. delete everything from iBooks on your Mac
  2. disable iCloud Drive for iBooks form the Mac
  3. go to iBooks on the iPhone and verify that there is nothing (since you deleted everything from the Mac, if there is something delete it)
  4. upload some documents from the iPhone (by opening them in Safari and copying them to iCloud)
  5. try to upload something from the Mac, it should work.

I hope this works for you too.

Best regards from Italy!

Hi there,

Having two accounts should not make a difference, as each account are accounted individually.

My guess is that an iCloud full storage (but isn't) error is not necessarily related to the iCloud storage issue!

There must be a bug somewhere, as even if it asks you to upgrade your iCloud storage account and still have plenty of space in your iCloud drive the problems doesn't comes from there...

I had the same issues, downloading e-book and getting that iCloud full storage issue. I realized that my two other devices, iPad and iPhone where full but my MacBook Pro wasn't. I tried freeing you some space into the iPhone and iPad and suddenly the iCloud storage issue disappeared...

I'm not sure it's gone work with you, it did with me it's worth the try!

This problem occurs when your PDF or your ePub is damaged. That's the error message from iBooks for that problem (I know, not exactly self explanatory...)

The way to fix that is to :

1) delete the iBooks copy of your document (PDF, ePub,...)

2) download Calibre (eBook manager, free). Don't know if I'm allowed to post external links but, whatever, Google "Calibre" and you'll find it very easily. Straightforward interface, don't worry. Free and no adware or whatsoever.

3) once Calibre is installed, you open your "damaged" document in it and you ask it to "convert" your ePub to ePub or your PDF to PDF. Yes, convert it to the same format !

4) it usually takes less than a minute per document to process and puts the output in a folder called "Calibre Library", at the root of your user folder (~/Calibre Library). You have a subdirectory with the name of the author or document creator. You'll find in it a copy of the original document AND a processed copy, corrected.

You can now open that corrected copy in iBooks and you shouldn't have that infamous message about your iCloud being full anymore.

Ok found a fix I think.

Inside the iBooks.app on Mac: If you sign out of your store account (account A), sign in to your iCloud account (account B) it'll pop up saying your books are synced with your store account (A), and ask if you prefer to sync with your iCloud account (B). Click sync.

Then logout of account B and log back into account A. Then it'll ask the same question again, this time saying it syncs to account B. Click "Don't Sync".

Now add a new book and see if you can find it under ~/Library/Mobile Documents/iCloud~com~apple~iBooks/Documents.

Worked for me, it now syncs books to my iCloud account.
