bootcamp partition renamed untitled after booting in MacOS

Can anybody please help me ?

I had succesfully installed Windows 10 on my Macbook Pro and ran Windows already several weeks smoothly.

Unfortunately I did not make a backup of my windows files yet.

Today when I booted to El Capitan to connect my iPad to iTunes Windows gave me a message that it needed repair when I tried to reboot to the bootcamp Windows version.

It did not succeed in repairing and only gave my an advanced options menu.

I booted back into MacOS to find that the windows partition was renamed to 'Untitled' and that no files were visible in Finder.

I than ran Disk Utility and selected First Aid on this partition, I thought this was read only to check for disk errors.

Now when booting from Windows it says no operation system available and Disk Utility shows 496 GB empty space on this partition !

I hope not all my files are lost !!

What can I do to repair the bootcamp partition ? I tried to install setup bootcamp files on USB but cannot boot from USB (does not show the USB drive)

Here is an example - Re: Unable to boot into mac or bootcamp . Please disable SIP, it it is not already disabled. You will repeat step A, because it is generic.

Step B. will have your values, which you should verify/match with your GDisk 'p' command output.

sudo gdisk /dev/rdisk0

partition number out of range ! should there be a preceding 'o' command (create a new GPT) ?

For Step A, you can use either. To be consistent, use the same for both steps A and B.

What is the output of

sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0

Right now, your MBR is configured to show NTFS. We can modify one value and see if FAT32 brings back any files.

don't i see files because El Capitan is not able to read and write NTFS ?

There is a read-only KEXT for NTFS in OS X. It can also write, but is disabled by default. If you feel adventurous, please see http://www.cnet.com/news/how-to-manually-enable-ntfs-read-and-write-in-os-x/ .

The issue you have is that the partition is FAT, not NTFS. Have you used Testdisk in the past?

sorry, I do not have any experience with mac OS until now.

Used to have windows machines since my youth...

getting to like the mac OS though..

I have read about testdisk in the other post....

what do I do with it ? I am really anxious to be able to reach my emails on my bootcamp windows again..

can you provide me with a link to the download of testdisk ? I downloaded a version that cannot be run ?

Is this also a command that should be run from within terminal or should I start it by double click on its icon ?

Please see El Capitan has deleted my bootcamp windows partition as an example of it's use to discover 'lost' partitions.

Let us make sure we do not make things worse. We want to avoid permanent data loss.
