Adobe issues after an SMC reset

I have an Adobe CC subscription and Bridge is an important part of my workflow. I've been having major issues with kernel_task taking up excessive CPU resources - up to 1200% of the CPU - often, and I took advice and reset my SMC.

That seems to have helped the CPU issue but now I can no longer load Bridge. I click on it and it bounces and disappears. I've opened a thread at Adobe but had no response to date but clearly the reset has caused a problem. I deleted the app, cleaned out the Library (or everything I could find) rebooted and reinstalled all to no avail.

Does anyone have any ideas what the problem or solution is?

And now I just tried to add the Last Resort font and it downloads into the downloads folder as a ZIP but when I click it to expand it tells me that there is no such file or directory as "Downloads" - the directory it is in! Has SMC trashed permissions of some sort? I checked and fixed these from Terminal before.
