Delete from all photos but not album

Yyou can't without also deleting them the album. Photos and All Photos display everything in your library. When you create albums, or projects, the images you add there are NOT duplicates of what's in your library. They're only "pointers" to the library files.

So if I import directly to an album from my camera SD card they will also get throw into "all photos" as well?

Yes. If you drag image files from the hard drive onto an album icon in the sidebar they will be imported into the library and appear in the Photos, All Photos and album window.

All photos imported into the library appear into the Photos and All Photos windows.

All Photos is exactly that - all photos - generally you do need to look at it - you will either look at Photos (years/collections/moments) where for less clutter you can check to summarize in the Photos preferences and you can use the hide photos to not show less good photos

and of course using albums and folders is a great way to organize photos

With the old iPhoto one could at least see the picture number beneath each photo; seems that no longer is possible GRRR1 Any way to show photo numbers under each photo in the current app?

Often i will choose from multiple, almost identical, shots, and I too would love to have a way to delete the 'no-longer-needed' images.

I tried hiding the pix in the album and then deleting all the others, but it drove me crazy.

Yyou don't "import" directly into albums. You "import" to your Photos library. You "create" albums from the images already in your library.

What is it that you're concerned about?

to delete a photo in Photos hold down the command key and press delete - this works form albums and form all Photos and Photos
