iPad pro 9.7 battery

How much should the battery drain on standby? It is losing about 10% plus overnight. Is that normal?

Solution found:

The Issue was my iPad Pro 9.7, 256g, at&t cellular data (via at&t, iPad Pro purchased via Apple) battery was draining at a rate of about 1.5 to 2% per hour while in sleep mode (no apps running and all setting matching my iPad Air 2, with no issues).

The FIx is to toggle the following switches from on to off or off to on and then back to the original state.

Settings >

Cellular Date > Cellular Date: from on to off to on

Cellular Data > Cellular Date Options > with Roaming: off

. Cellular Date > Cellular Data Options > Enable LTE: from on to off to on

. Cellular Data > Cellular Date Options > Data Roaming: from off to on to off

Result, for the last 7 hrs now in sleep mode 0% drain during that time.

I hope this help.

Same issue here iPad Pro 9.7 128GB Wi-Fi + Cellular. Returned my iPad Pro after few days as the battery was draining too fast compared to my other iPad (Air). Replacement iPad was experiencing same issue. Apple suggested to restore and setup as a new iPad and not restore from backup. I restored and setup up as new iPad and did not download any apps. Charged the Pro and Air on Sunday and left both of them unplugged, checked back on Wednesday: Pro battery life was at 82% and Air was at 98%. Went back to apple and they did not have any answers. They agreed to take the Pro back even after 20 days. I'm planning on returning this iPad as my sister is also experiencing same issue. She has the Wi-Fi only model.

Similar issue. I went to the Genius Bar at local Apple store when iPad Pro 9.7 was one week old. We tweaked some settings and it made a small difference. They suggested if that did not work I should wipe the device and download all apps but restore music, videos, and data from iTunes backup. That seemed like a lot of work as I used my iPad Air 1st generation to set up the new device which was effortless. Seems from your note that it did not help anyway.

I think there is a systemic problem with the iPad Pro 9.7 and Apple ought to fix it! It was like the iOS 9.3 debacle which bricked iPhones and iPads. Apple took days to admit the problem and fix it. I only hope this will turn out to be a software issue and not bad hardware which will take forever to remedy.

I have 9.7 iPad Pro 128 WiFi only - I got it the day they were released. Noticed poor battery life from the start.

I have just tested it on geekbench and got 4.5 hours. I've read reviews and it should be more like 11.

I have contacted Apple today and they tested it online said battery was fine, I said it is not. Have appointment with genius bar on Monday.

I have just soft reset and will test the battery again once it's recharged. It is really slow to fully charge to - 6+ hours

If that don't work then I will do a hard reset and see.

I only hope this is a software problem and not a hardware problem as the machine itself is fine.

I stand corrected after further testing and use.

To stop the battery drain during sleep, either turn-off Bluetooth or under Settings > Bluetooth > Apple Pencil "I" and Forget This Device.

my results with Bluetooth > Off :: 14 hrs in sleep 0% lost, finally 🙂

I will be re-testing tonight Bluetooth > On and Forget Apple Pencil.

OK. Just to update:

I ran Geekbench 3 in various modes on both my iPad Pro and and iPad 4th generation for comparison.

iPad 4th Generation:

Geekbench 3 Battery Test

Settings: Display Brightness: Auto Brightness on.

Test 1 with Dim Screen off: 100% to 0%: 5.51.

It took 4.16 to charge fully from 0 to 100%

Test 2 with Dim Screen on: 100% to 0%: 10.27. Average battery time for iPad 4th Generation is 10 hours according to Geekbench Battery Benchmarks.

iPad Pro 9.7

Geekbench 3 Battery Test

Settings: Display Brightness: Auto Brightness was turned off.

Test 1 with Dim Screen off: 100% to 0%: 4.34

I then soft reset.

It took 3.33 to charge fully from 0 to 100%

Test 2 with Dim Screen off: 100% to 0%: 4.28

So basically no diference after the soft reset.

Test 3:

Settings: Display Brightness: Auto Brightness turned on.

Geekbench Dim Screen on: 100% to 0%: 14.10

Yes that's a whopping 14 hours snf 10 minutes and according to Geekbench Battery Benchmarks iPad Pro average is 13 hours although I suspect that is for the larger model (it doesn't distinguish between the models in the overall average Benchmarks).

I think I should try the test again with Dim Screen off but with Auto Brightness on as I didn't have it turned on during the first 2 tests.

The 4th generation tests clearly show that having the screen not dimmed makes a huge diffence to the battery time.

However with the Pro model the difference between having the screen dimmed and not dimmed is huge - almost 10 hours.

I have run one more test:

iPad Pro 9.7

Geekbench 3 Battery Test

Settings: Display Brightness: Auto Brightness was turned on.

Geek bench Dim Screen set off.

100% to 0%: 11.50

That's down 2 hours on the test with dim screen set on but still out performs iPad 4th Generation.

The results appear in line with the Benchmarks, although I am still not convinced in the real world the battery will perform up to 10 hours as Apple claim.
