thinking to upgrade sl 10.6.8 to el capitan on imac 2011.
i would like to know before upgrading if there is any safe mode to downgrade it again if I dont like el capitan. I have the original SL DVD´S shipped with the mac.

Unless you want to lose everything backup now. Then erase the disk and install SL, recover your files from the backup.
One option is to create a new partition (~30- 50 GB), install the new OS, and ‘test drive’ it. If you like/don’t like it it, you can then remove the partition. Do a backup before you do anything. By doing this, if you don’t like it you won’t have to go though the revert process.
Check to make sure your applications are compatible.

Open Disk Utility, select your hard drive (step 1), then the Partition tab (step 2), and select the partition. Using the /// at the bottom move it up (step 3) until the size box decrease by about 50 GB. Select the newly created space and hit the + button (step 4). Name it something and select Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as the format (step 5). Then hit the Apply button(step 6). Download the installer from the App Store and when it starts, point it at the new partition. You might want to make a copy of the installer outside the Applications folder to avoid having to re-download it in the future. Once installed, go to System Preferences/Startup Disk, select the new partition and reboot. Test away.
Basically, there is no way to "uninstall" an OS X version. That's why you need to have a full backup of your prior system. I would recommend having a cloned backup, as they can be used as a bootable version of your prior system.

The only problem is that the startup disk is not showing the new partition.
There is two items:
Macintosh HD
Network Starup
The new disc called Macintosh HD El Capitan is not on the list.

Something new,the stratup sound is missing now.
The new disc is present in disk utility,verifyed it,it is ok.Also I tryed to repair it but it is still missing from the startup list.
The files from the folders of el capitan have some locked icon on them.
So still waiting for some solution.

If you're starting from the Snow Leopard partition, the El Capitan partition will not show as a startup selection in System Preferences. And don't use Snow Leopard's version of Disk Utility to repair the El Capitan partition.
You use the El Capitan partition by restarting the Mac by holding down the Option key while restarting the Mac. Then you will be given the choice to start from the El Capitan partition.

Do you know why is the startup sound is missing now on Snow Leopard?

If you shutdown any OS X version with the sound turned all the way down or muted, you won't hear the chime on the next startup. Check for that.
