How do I type the symbols for male

What is the font & key combination to get the male and female symbols?

iMac with Retina 5K display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)

Edit menu : Emoji's & Symbols. In the Character panel search window, enter male, and the female and male unicode symbols will appear in the center panel. When you double-click on either symbol, it will be inserted at the insertion point in Pages.


There is no special font and key combination to get these symbols. They are members of the Pictographs category found in the left characters panel. You can add this category item from the gear icon, and Customizations… menu.


These characters can be directly entered if you have the Unicode Hex Input selected (System Preferences : Keyboard : Input Sources) from the Finder Input menu in the menu bar, and by pressing option+2642, or option+2640, for male and female symbols respectively.
