iPad Pro 9.7 Random Restart

Normally wouldn't think much of this but, I have a 2 day old iPad Pro 9.7 128GB that has restart on me twice so far. In the middle of using it, it will cut to the Apple logo on the black background for a minute before returning to the passcode screen. Oddly enough, it will accept Touch ID in place of a passcode, something it doesn't usually do when it loses power. Any idea on the cause or how to figure it out? I chatted with the tech support but they only help they could provide was to do a restore. I just performed it, but my concern is that I installed an app or enabled something causing the iPad to crash and it'll simply continue to do that due to the bad app.

My random restarts stopped with 10.2 but this ipad has multiple problems. The only things the techs can tell you to do is to factory reset. The problems keep changing. One time it was freezing and now pages in Safari turn white. Apple won't admit that these ipads are defective. They will do nothing except factory resets. How many times do you need to reset the iPad to get it to work for awhile until Apple admits there is a problem..They won't admit any of their products are defective.

MAngoSoda, I'll try to remember using the gesture in stead of the Home button when leaving Safari next time.

Although I have to add to this: it also happened to me when I left Safari using the small "<Back to Mail" link in the upperleftmost corner (when I used Safari by following a link in an email)

And it also happened when I left Safari by clicking a proprietary link which sends me off to the YouTube app, or another protocol handler.

I Am so sorry to take this thread off topic, but Every time I see your name in the community, it brings a smile to my face. The most amusing discussion that I have ever been involved in comes to mind....your chirping sound discussion, that is.

I hope all is well with you and yours! 🙂

Hello Demo!!! I am well. Thank you for your kind words. Ah, those were the days and I remember your participation in that adventure with fondness. I still use the chirping discussion in my physics classes to show how a community of good people can work together, using deductive thinking (and a little humor), to solve a great mystery.

I hope you too are doing well. And...and...and

I'm on my third replacement 128GB 9.7" iPad Pro LTE and even as it was restoring my iCloud backup, I was using it lightly in Tweetbot and as soon as I exited, boom, white on black Apple logo, and back to the Lock screen again.

I think the crashes have something to do with not just Safari, but apps that use the Safari View Controller. Why it doesn't happen on our iPhone 5s or 6s Plus devices, or my kids' iPad mini 2/3, or my wife's iPad Air 2 is the part that concerns me on whether or not it's a hardware issue.

I hope it will be resolved soon because I also feel this is unacceptable, but as long as Apple is not willing to resolve it, let alone acknowledge that this is a problem, and is willing to keep swapping out devices for the same issues, at least I'll always have a fresh-looking iPad Pro.

None of my devices at home have random reboots. Only this new iPad Pro 9.7 and we have a few other iPads.

If Apple used a WiFi chip that allows router to reboot it and ONLY used this on this model, then it is a hardware problEm and they are at fault.

Imagine if your car stalled because it had a part that could be controlled by your phone.

So by using this defective WiFi chipset in this model iPad, they have caused the problem.

I do not believe this is a WiFi problem, more something to do with the home button.

I Also have found that it is the home button when I am leaving Safari. My newest IPad doesn't, reboot as often as the others, so far. Also, I keep loosing ITunes. It won't load until I shut down the IPad And open it. I am not sure if it has anything to do with the reboots, but my last one did the same thing. I am waiting for the update to see if it will be fixed. If not I will deal with it at that time

I thought this was interesting. Two days ago the iOS App Store was having problems updating certain apps (Netflix, etc.). This problem was documented on the Apple Support Twitter site. Point is, it wasn't just my iPad. You would press the update button for an app, it would start to update for a second, and then stop and return to showing the update button. You could keep pressing the update button and this start, stop business would just repeat. What was interesting is that I could use this process to cause the dreaded restart phenomenon. I made it happen about 5 times just for fun 😁. I wasn't using Safari or engaging any of the other conditions folks have mention that result in the restart. I could not get my iPhone 6s+ to replicate this behavior when I tried updating Netflix over and over as described above. Only the iPad Pro would fall prey to my mad tapping.

iOS 9.3.3 has a bunch of fixes most of them addressing memory leaks. Yippeee?

Every time I'm done with the tab (in safari), I kill the tab before exiting. It's an OCD kinda thing. Seems to be working for me. I realize however that some people have been experiencing crashes before even exiting safari. Hope the new update helps. I'm a bit leery of installing it before someone experiencing frequent crashes can confirm if this update helped them.

Good luck guys!
