Why won't my version of Chrome update on my iMac?

I am trying to update my version of Chrome on my iMac and every time I try and do so I keep getting an error message saying that the update has failed and I get error code 11.

My current version of Chrome is 48.0.2564.109 (64-bit) and I'm running OS X 10.11.4

Any reason why this might happen and how can I fix it?

Thanks.

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5), 21inch

You original statement said "I am trying to update my version of Chrome on my iMac and every time I try and do so I keep getting an error message saying that the update has failed and I get error code 11."

If you have the most recent version of Chrome installed there is NO way for you to "try to update" Chrome. The 'About' screen for Chrome looks like the one below.

So how are you trying to update Chrome and getting this error message?

Many thanks for this.

I found that a few hours ago and was looking through what people had been saying. I tried the very last instructions but it never made any difference. Thanks again though.

The commands aren't expected to help they just show you the state of your internet connection and the ability for the Google software to get to it's update server.
