appleTV keeps asking for appleID, password and authentication code circularly

after updating my iPhone I was asked to use the double authentication code, I had no idea of what kind of nightmare this is. I spent hours going from a device to another checking passwords and authentication codes. The last one is the Apple TV, after this stupid innovation my appleTV keeps asking for my AppleID, password and authentication code, and than goes back to the request for the appleID. Basically my AppleTV is useless. how can I eliminate the stupid authentication code, that makes all my devices basically inaccessible?

iPhone 6, iOS 9.3.1

Hope this helps? No. It doesn't.

This is Apple TV, not the next release of The Room.

Instructions should be clear and easy to follow and not rely on undisclosed hacks like some of you have laid out. Apple is losing customers because they can't deliver a product that should be simple to use.

This is exactly what I have tried so many times.

I'm using my iPhone as the remote ... so typing in the password and appending the verification code (generated in "System Preferences > iCloud > Account Details > Security" on a Mac) is really pretty quick.

It just never works. I have tried countless times.

You may have already tried this but... The only other tip I can offer to get out of the loop you seem to be in is this:

1) Try to sign out. It may not let you because you are technically not completely signed in. However, a part of the device may have you partially signed in. Which could keep CorsairVelo's method from working even if you do everything right.

2) If it won't let you sign out, then you may need to reset the appleTV so that it clears everything. This is in Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. (If you really want to start from scratch with the AppleTV then do Settings>General>Reset>Restore -- this will bring you to factory default settings and install the latest updates that work on your model)

3) Then try using CorsairVelo's method to sign in.

Hope it works for you

To follow up on this ... the firewall on my Xfinity router is off ... no port forwarding of any kind. Apple TV Gen 4 and Apple TV 4K have zero issues. My Apple TV 3rd Gen absolutely will not sign into the iTunes Store (so pretty useless). If I put the AppleTV 3rd Gen on my phone’s hotspot WiFi, boom no issues signing in. W.T.F

Thank you!!! This worked. After many days of attempting this, I never new of seeking my own request for a verification code and the 30 second delay. I couldn’t believe that you could enter a password immediately followed by the verification code in a single string of consecutive characters, but it took it in. I am very grateful for your advice! Yes, as others commented, Apple has their head in an ostrich hole and they don’t make this easy. Very very frustrating against apple designers. Totally not Steve Jobs’s easy and delightful human interface.

Don’t give up.

Long character combinations are not a problem w 30 second delay.

-Type in an email or word pad or elsewhere your password.

-Copy the password.

-Request a new number.

-Immediately paste your password and then enter your given verification code. Consecutively - do not leave a space before your verification code, Should be adequate time.

-Enter.

-done. Should have triggered it correctly and you should be in.

I think what I did a week ago was to first type in my password without pasting, it is long (9 characters), but I can type it in easily, then requested code etc. It worked for me.

It should work for you if you paste yours that is very long. Good luck.

Redwood.

PLEASE READ MY POST - NOBODY SHOULD DESPAIR AS THERE IS HELP AVAILABLE:

---------------------------------------------------

HERE ARE THE DETAILED STEPS THAT I DID TO RESOLVE MY (YOUR ?) PROBLEM ON MY APPLE TV 3rd GENERATION.

This comes from talking with Apple through the "getsupport.apple.com" site and speaking (not chatting) to Apple.

(Note that I had updated the software to the latest version before and it did not help.)

1 - Power off the Apple TV by unplugging it from the power receptacle.

2 - Wait at least 30 seconds and replug it. Wait for the device to power on.

3 - Go to Settings, iTunes Store, Apple ID, then SIGNOUT. This was the key for me. (The suggestions above did not work for me because of that missing step)

4 - Then do sign in, by entering first your Apple ID email address, and then here is what to do for the password:

5 - First type in your password, but DO NOT SUBMIT IT YET as you need to supply, in the same field as the password, a 6-digit code that you will append right after your password (no space)

6 - To get the 6 digit code, you can use another device such as the iPhone:

6a) I use a French iPhone interface, so I will translate that into English for you, but it may be slightly different from what you see on the English interface.

So on the iPhone or equivalent, choose "Settings", your Apple Identifier (on the top), "Password & Security", then Get a Validation Code. A 6-digit validation then code appears that you can use on the Apple TV to append to your password. Then you can submit the combined password_code.

Not sure for how long that 6-digit code was valid, but since I use a bluetooth keyboard to control my Apple TV, it went real fast for me. People above do talk about a 30-second period for which the code is valid.

7 - Voilà. It did work for me. I really hope it does work for you.

---------------------------------------------------

IF THAT DOES NOT WORK FOR YOU, HERE IS WHAT TO DO:

Go to "getsupport.apple.com", choose Apple TV, "Troubleshooting Apple TV", choose "The Topic is not listed" and continue.

(Do not loose time with chatting (as after they tried to transfer my chat to a higher level support, nothing happened for hours). In my case, I did wait for 35 minutes for a callbask even if the interface said I would receive the call in 2 minutes. And after it rings, I had to wait for another 3 minutes perhaps. Then you will talk to someone who will likely resolve your problem.

---------------------------------------------------

IF INTERESTED THESE WERE MY SYMPTOMS BEFORE RESOLUTION:

- I have an Apple TV 3rd generation

- I would choose "TV Shows" and try without success to access my bought content because I would always come back to the "iTunes Store Sign-in page" even after entering countless times my Apple ID, my password, and after the Apple TV asked for it, the 6-digit code received on my iPhone.

- I did use a BlueTooth keyboard and I did enter the verification code well within the 30-seconds period and I would still always come back to the same Sign-in page.

One trick I leaned that worked is to log out and log back in on your computer for icloud after you have typed the ApplID and password in applTV but not submitted yet. While you are logging into your icloud you get the 2-Factor message to your phone login with the numbers on your computer then quickly add the same numbers to the end of your password in the apple TV form field and submit. and it worked for me on the first try, I was also lucky that I got some repeating digits but if your fast enough it works. Good luck!

This does not work. I have tried it multiple times.

I have tried appending the code to the password with space and without space

I have tried getting to the next screen and inputting the code when Apple TV asks for it

It does not work

NOTHING WORKS APPLE THIS IS APPALLING AND I CAN EVEN CHAT WITH AN APPLE SUPPORT PERSON TO HAVE THEM SOLVE IT. FOR GOODNESS SAKE JUST TURN OFF THE REQUIREMENT FOR TWO FACTOR AUTHENTIFICATION ON APPLE TV.

you cant even turn two factor authentification off any more.

If anyone else has a solution other than smashing the Apple TV device with a hammer I would love to hear it .

appleTV keeps asking for appleID, password and authentication code circularly
