appleTV keeps asking for appleID, password and authentication code circularly

after updating my iPhone I was asked to use the double authentication code, I had no idea of what kind of nightmare this is. I spent hours going from a device to another checking passwords and authentication codes. The last one is the Apple TV, after this stupid innovation my appleTV keeps asking for my AppleID, password and authentication code, and than goes back to the request for the appleID. Basically my AppleTV is useless. how can I eliminate the stupid authentication code, that makes all my devices basically inaccessible?

iPhone 6, iOS 9.3.1

Apparently the new Apple TVs will work as expected. The older ones are not designed for two-factor; but Apple should fix this via a software update (will they?).... but the work-around works.

Do not turn two-factor off because of this, just go to your iphone and get a fresh code after you type-in the password on the Apple TV and before you append two-factor code. Do this by....

(On iphone or ipad)

  • going to settings, iCloud
  • click on your iCloud ID at top of screen
  • click on "Password & Security"
  • click on "Get Verification code"

... then just type that code in the password field after your ATV password.

It works, I've done it on three older Apple TVs.

I cannot use my Apple TVs with the two step authentication turned on. I have read every forum and tried exactly what is recommended a ton of times. The two step authentication cannot be turned off now as some suggested and also adding the verification code to the password doesn’t work even when I complete it within 30 seconds. Apple Please help!! It is not fair to your customers!!!

I dont have a code at all. I think because I have an older Apple TV.

I keep getting told my password is incorrect, but I know it is correct.

THis is total horse crap. They make the technology so complicated.

People do not have all day to study this stuff and figure it out.

But they have hundreds of technology people designing stuff and not once did anyone

actually make something that is simple.

I am done with Apple TV and just watching you tube from now on.

This absolutely Apple not fixing the problem so that people will get frustrated and buy a new Apple TV. Infuriating! There is no window that pops up asking for the verification code. How would anyone know to append their password, within 30 seconds, with the code they got from their other device?? Completely unintuitive. And you CANNOT TURN OFF 2 Factor Verification if you set it up on an iOS 13 device. Ridiculous. Add this Apple TV 2G/3G glitch to the list of increasingly frustrating and anti-consumer choices that Apple has been making in recent years.

As I said in my post: it HAS perfectly functioning two factor authentication. It works perfectly to log-in to iTunes. I put in my email, then my password (unamended), and clicked submit. My phone then told me a device near my location was trying to access my account, and I clicked allow, and it gave me a verification code which the Apple TV was now asking for. Once I put that in, it logged in to iTunes perfectly. It just doesn’t work for iCloud or Home Sharing. Apple *constantly* makes anti-consumer choices; it’s how most businesses succeed. You force consumers to buy things they don’t actually need, by artificially creating said “need”.

Thank you for this! I spent about an hour with the stupid signing in and out of ICLOUD and putting in codes. No luck. Until I saw your response. I don't know why the iTunes app on Apple TV shows the message that it is having a problem signing into ICLOUD and to "try again later" when the fix is to sign out and sign back into ITUNES. You would think that with all the people at Apple who work on Apple TV, someone could tell the difference between ICLOUD and ITUNES.

Glad u got ur app tv box up n running again. I agree with you I won’t invest in an upgrade and when my 3rd generation box becomes defunct and no longer works I too won’t look to Apple for an upgrade I’ll do what many others are doing and use an alternative.

It’s a shame because Apple products have always been high quality but when it comes to suggestions they don’t even listen to the customer and that’s probably going to be the downfall as more loyal customers will start to look elsewhere for simple more user friendly products to work hand in hand with their selection of gadgets.

Everyday I sign in with a password I set the day before. It always tells me that password is incorrect. When I change it, the same thing happens again as if it never registered but I know it did. What causes this. This happened on my husband’s phone and he is locked out of his and Apple support could not help me unlock it. Actually there are two problems here.
