Can't Remember My iPod Passcode

So basically, I have an iPod Touch (4th generation) and I can't remember the passcode.

- I have incorrectly entered a passcode enough times now that when I turn it on it says "iPod is disabled. Connect to iTunes".

- This would be fine, but I threw out the computer that I last synced it with a few years ago, and so cannot connect to iTunes.

- There is a small chance that I may be able to guess the passcode if I keep trying, but can't because it is locked.

- Restoring the iPod is not an option as I don't want to lose important data (photos, music, etc).

- I am not sure what operating system (iOS) it is currently using.

1) How can I bypass "iPod is disabled. Connect to iTunes" and try another passcode?

2) If I cannot figure out the passcode, is there any way to bypass it without erasing any data?

iOS: Forgotten passcode or device disabled after entering wrong passcode - http://support.apple.com/HT204306 - Learn what to do if you have forgotten or can't remember your passcode, or if your device displays a message saying it is disabled.

If you cannot connect it to the computer to which the device was last connected (or the device was never connected to a computer) you will have to use recovery mode to completely reset the device, losing all data:

Just for future reference, I found this on another site (http://www.payetteforward.com/my-iphone-is-disabled-connect-to-itunes-fix/)

Can I Unlock My iPhone After It Is Disabled?

Unfortunately, the answer is no. Once your iPhone says “iPhone is disabled. Connect to iTunes”, there is nothing you can do to unlock it. People sometimes think Apple Stores have special tools that can unlock disabled iPhones, but they don’t. The only thing you can do is completely erase your iPhone and start over.
