Family Sharing -- Do I have to hide things even to myself?!
I switched to Family Sharing - I am the Family owner, and have one child. In order to not share my PG-13 or R rated videos (or books or TV shows) with my child though, I hid pretty much everything besides disney. The problem though is that now my iPad, my Apple TV, and my cell phone all ONLY have the disney. I am the adult of the family and was trying to hide these movies and books and TV shows from my kid, not me too!!! This seems like such a ridiculous error on Apple's part!! I can't pick out a movie on my apple tv without going to my laptop, then searching through all of my purchases --> hidden --> then unhiding the purchase (so technically while I'm watching the movie the kids could see it) --> then selecting it on the apple tv --> then watching it --> then going back to my laptop to unhide it. This makes NO sense. It would make a lot more sense to be able to click on a movie and select who in the family should not be allowed to see it in their sharing. (Example: the most common family that is made up of adults, and then 2+ kids spaced 2-5 years apart. In this example, you might let your 10 year old son watch PG13 movies, but not your 5 year old daughter, and iTunes Family Sharing should give you the "preferences" and "settings" to make this happen.) This seems so basic.
What's the deal?! Does anyone have more knowledge as to why this isn't possible?! Or a workaround?! This has honestly had me on a two-week freeze of buying any apple content because I am researching if there is another better possibility out there. I am just crossing my fingers they will fix it because I have purchased thousands of dollars of content already!
