ibooks doesn't work on ios 9.3 or 9.3.1! ideas for fixing?

Hello guys,

since I updated my iphone 6 to ios 9.3 or also 9.3.1 ibooks is completly unuseable. Since i can't jump back to ios 9.2 anymore I really need to fix this. I have a rather large collection of PDFs, ebooks (not bought via itunes) and general epub data. Before the update i never had problems with ibooks whatsoever, even though the collection was big.

The problem is now:

1. I can't open any books in ibooks.

- they are there, i can see them but clicking on them does nothing. once every blue moon one might open but breaks down very fast again.

2. the round loading sign more or less never disappears

- i already let the sign load to its hearts content for a few hours till it stops but when you dare to use the app then it happens again

3. i can't delete any books/data in ibooks directly anymore

- when the loading sign stops and i attempt to delete sth. i can go through the deleting motions but after clicking on deleting nothing happens. the data is still there.

4. around 95% of the book covers/data covers are missing

- there are just the white boxes instead

- sometimes the covers will appear again when i wait really long for it, but when i scroll past them and then back ibooks "forgot" everything about this book again.

The problem also didn't disappear when using a new phone btw. I tried everything again with a new iphone 6s. still no change. it has to be a software bug.

Any ideas what i could do?

What I already tried:

1. on/off

2. hard reset

3. deleting everything and putting it back on (took hours and no change)

4. configure it as a new phone

5. deleting all settings (without deleting the media)

6. deleting everything apple/itunes/itunes mediathek from my pc and downloading it anew (which meant making the whole mediathek anew)

7. switching between backups

Could apple please do sth. about it?!

iPhone 6, iOS 9.3, ibooks, snyching

UPDATE

to all of you who read my post and have the same issues: i got asked by an apple employee for the ibooks crash logs and sent them to him. which is great because I more or less expected to be ignored.

so lets all cross our fingers that the issue will be solved very soon and he will contact me again (since I would post the problem solution for you guys out there on here).

Well, that has been MY experience. Are you in these United States or in another country? If the latter, it may be you have a better support system. I've been using Apple products since 1984 and the support quality has had its ups and owns over the last 30+ years. Anyway, I'm looking to replace iBooks with something else that has better sorting/arranging, perhaps Marvin will work.

You are my hero! I just downloaded Gerty and it is great and does have the scrolling effect. yay!

I loaded so many ebook reader apps after ibooks went crazy but couldn't find anyone that had scrolling. But Gerty is indeed an awesome alternative till ibooks gets fixed. thanks for telling me!

(yeah the sorting is ****** up for me too...i also used most recent and downwards but that doesn't work at all anymore)

UPDATE 6

so, ios 9.3.3 public beta is out. i downloaded it. NO CHANGE in ibooks. the app stil doesn't work whatsoever.

i had a little bit of hope that sth. would get fixed and if it's only the sorting (which wouldn't help all that much when you can't open a book but would have been better than nothing). so you don't have to bother joining the beta program. i have written at least 10 feedback messages in the beta program mentionging the issues but nobody there cares.

It is still around a week till I can annoy the apple employee that is responsible for my case in asking how far the developers are with my data...

BUT chilligurl66 mentioned the Gerty App, that also has a scrolling effect, as a substitue for ibooks. i loaded it and recommend it to everyone who has the ibooks issues. with that you can at least read comfortably till ibooks gets fixed. (you just have to swap between landscape an portraid viewing mode manually as far as I know in the moment, but i also got the app just a few hours ago)

you can't open sth. from ibooks directly in gerty.

but you can open epubs from the internet with "open with" directly in gerty and you can add books with icloud drive and dropbox.

otherwise you could get your epubs from you laptop (you go to the itunes path) and add the data in you dropbox and have it then in gerty.

i mean in comparison ibooks was still better (more clearly arranged) but gerty is the best ibooks dupe currently around. with it you can at least read comfortably till ibooks is fixed without being annoyed.

Question: Before iOS 9.3 screwed up iBooks, I had manually arranged them under the Book Shelf option, by Author's last name, then first name. I next manually arranged each author's titles alphabetically with the exception of a series. Series titles were arranged chronologically with the SERIES TITLE used in the alphabetical titles arrangement. Is it possible to do this in Gerty or other possible iBooks replacement apps? When looking at the app descriptions on the iTunes Store, I don't see sorting/arranging possibilities described very well.

Unfortunately, this seems to be the only way to use iBooks at this point: About 20-25 minutes before I actually want to read, I open the app. I allow the app to crash at least once (if not twice) and reopen. I select the book I want to read, then wait about 10 to 15 minutes to open it. I am then able to read that book. The key is, plan WELL AHEAD of time before you actually want to read. Get rid of the idea of "sorting" your books in any particular order - that's no longer possible. If you crave spontaneity when reading (for example, you're unexpectedly stuck on a line or have some random free time to read), then another app such as "Kindle" reader is more appropriate. I don't think Apple has any plans to improve iBooks in the future.

right now i also think that nothing will happen till ios 10. apparently they will change the app store in a big way then, so they might wait with ibooks fixes till then too. which is a freaking joke, because we would have waited 6 months for a fix.

apple is ******* up so much lately...the iphone 6 was my first iphone and "real" mobile phone but i really think I am going to change to android. i looked into it and there are supposedly ways to get the scrolling effect in ebook readers on android too.

Update 7

1) I spoke with the apple employee again, but he said that the fixing guys haven't contaced him yet. He said that he will ask them again next week. In the end there are no changes and no problem fixes yet.

2) I downloaded the next ios 9.3.3 beta 2 this week, but the beta also did NOT change a thing. So also no fix on that front.

In conclusion: All issues are still the same with no solution on its way. I think our best shot would be ios 10 for a fix, but on the other hand apple doesn't seem very interested in fixing the ****. It would be nice if the employees would at least tell you straight up that the stuff won't be fixed or that they plan to tackle the issue in a year or so. i can't stand this lying. It also makes their customer service look very bad.

UPDATE 9 - THE LAST OF ITS KIND

Hey there, this will be my last update here for the time being. For two reasons:

1) The employee still hasn't contacted me with a solution and probably never will.

2) I may have or may haven't downloaded the ios 10 beta 1, where i had high hopes that the issue would be resolved.

in the end, ALL the ibooks issues still continue in ios 10! the way ios behaved, i really don't think that they did any changes in ibooks at all.

all this shows that apple doesn't give a **** about ibooks for the time being. well, apparently at least till september. I will continue going with the beta stuff and also join ios 10 public beta, but my hopes are not really there anymore.

In case sth. would change though, I will write it down here and inform everybody about the solution, but i won't do the regular updates till the **** is fixed.

ibooks doesn't work on ios 9.3 or 9.3.1! ideas for fixing?
