Ken Burns effect on large photo, keeping full quality?

Hi, I have some high rez still images to add to a video with a simple Ken Burns effect. I would like to keep the quality really sharp for zooming in, is there a way to do this, ie select the photo from source rather than importing it when it has reduced to project size (a bit like Avid pan and scan function)?
