Bootcamp Windows 10 - Could not locate the MAC OS X boot volume

I recently started getting the error "could not locate the MAC OS X boot volume" when using the Bootcamp tray icon to restart my MacBook into OS X. I'm able to use the option key to boot into both Windows and OS X. Any ideas how to fix? LonerT? Yes, this happened after doing a Windows 10 update... I'd prefer to not turn Windows updates off as things should work normally. Tried to repair Bootcamp install, but same issue. Thanks!

You can check this out: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208123

macOS High Sierra upgrades solid-state drives to Apple File System (APFS). This system currently requires Startup Manager to switch between Windows and macOS. If you choose Restart in OS X from the Windows Boot Camp menu, this message appears: "Could not locate the OS X boot volume."

Follow these steps to boot into macOS or Windows:

  1. Restart your Mac, then immediately hold down the Option key.
  2. Release the Option key when you see the Startup Manager window.
  3. Select your macOS or Windows startup disk, then click the arrow or press Return.

So apparently when you upgraded to High Sierra, Restart to MacOS in Windows Boot Camp is out of option. The only thing will get back you between Mac & Win by using Startup Manager.

LonerT, genius. So, with the last update of W10 the "Apple OS Switch Manager" service was disabled in services...didn't know it existed.

Steps for fix:

- Boot W10

- Type "servies" into Cortana search window and click "Services (desktop app)"

- Search for "Apple OS Switch Manager" in the name column and right click on it, select 'properties'.

- On the general tab at the top, set 'startup type' to "automatic"

- Once set to automatic, below startup type click "start"

All is good...for now. 😎

Thanks.
